Tupakierros viimeinen osa

Vieläkin löysin muutaman kuvan tupasestamme. Hieman sekalainen rykelmä otoksia, mutta nämä taitavat olla nyt viimeiset tätä sarjaa.

Ensimmäisenä kuvatus kodinhoitohuoneestamme. Ihanan 70-luvun mankelin olen saanut anopiltani. Se toimii moiteettomasti. Tosin en sitä kovinkaan paljoa käytä. Laatikosto on kaupan peruja ja olen sitä hieman yrittäny laittaa kuluneen näkiseksi.

T-paidat ovat muistoja, jotka roikkuvat kellarissa matkalla pesuhuoneeseen.
Kaikki perhepotretit olen kerännyt yhdelle seinälle portaikkoon. Kokoelma luonnollisesti kasvaa koko ajan. Portaikkoon jätimme vanhan pinkopahvin, joka on mielestäni herttainen. Tätä kyseistä pahvia ei enää tehdä ja tarvitsisimme sitä palasen remontin edetessä. Pitäneekö repiä sitä varaston seinästä?

Still I found a few unpublished picture of our home. The first one on the left is from our laundry room. The mangle straight from the 70's I've gotten from my mother in law. It works just perfect on those few times I use it in a year.

The drawer is from the store. I've tried to renovate it so it looks worn out.
The picture on the upper hand corner is from our bedroom.
T-shirts hang like souvenirs from on the wall of the basement corridor.
All the family portraits I've collected on one wall on our staircase. Naturally the collection keeps getting bigger. The wall paper is actually original cardboard. I left it in the corridor and I'm quite fond of it still. The problem now is that we need to get some more for our renovation project but they've stopped producing it. Maybe I've to tear some down from our storage perhaps.

Vaalisunnuntai

Vaalisunnuntai tuli ja meni ja unohdin vallan liputtaakin päivän kunniaksi. Josko kahden viikon päästä muistaisi.

Ilmojen kylmettyä on kiva välillä tehdä lämmintä maitokaakaota, koristella se kermavaahdolla ja strösseleillä ja käpertyä viltin alle katsomaan televisiota.

Pakkasta inhoava kissamme ei kauaa ulkona kerralla viihdy. Silloin kun sen saa puoliväkisin ovesta ulos suuntaa se polkunsa suoraan ladon alle. Kuvasta näkyy sen vakioreitti.

Sunnuntaina äänestämisen lisäksi kävin huutokaupassa. Kaikki kivat huonekalut sai joku toinen huudettua nenäni edestä ja minulle jäivät vain nämä pellavaiset liinat, jotka pyyheliinoina huusin.

We had the first round of our presidential election on Sunday and I forgot to put the flag up to celebrate the occasion. Well there'll be another round in two weeks so I'll try to remember the flag then.

When the weather has gotten a bit colder it's nice make some hot chocolate with ripped cream and crawl under a blanket and watch television. Our cat who hates the cold don't stay out long. And when he eventually goes out he heads straight to our barn.

On Sunday after the voting I went to a auction. All the lovely furniture got snatched from front of me but I got this pile of old linen tablecloths. Although I thought I was making a bid for some towels.

Propellimies ja kappa

Pikkutyttönä olin paappani veljen luona kesäjuhlissa. Leikkimökissä oli ihana nukke. Sen kasvot olivat pyöreät, kädet pulleat ja jaloissa mustat kengät. Omituisin asia oli nuken selässä; siellä oli propelli. Muistan pyöritelleeni sitä ihastuksissani. Tykästyin nukkeen kovasti, mutten tohtinut isäntäväeltä kysyä sitä omakseni. Olisin sen kyllä varmasti saanut. Nukke jäi mieleeni ja nyt aikuisiällä yhtäkkiä tajusin, että nukkehan oli Katto Kassinen. Huuto.netistä huusin itselleni vihdoin sellaisen omakseni. 25 vuotta myöhemmin omistan ihanan punatukkaisen Katto kassisen.

Pupukappa tuli kirpputorilla vastaan ja tottakai se täytyi jo ostaa poikasen tulevaan huoneeseen. Söpö.

As a little girl I was at a party at my grandfathers' brothers' house. In the playhouse I found this charming doll. His face was round, arms a bit chubby and he had on black shoes. The weirdest thing was on the dolls' back; a propeller. I remember swirling it around. I became very fond of the doll but did not dare to ask could I have it. Surely I would have. I have not forgotten about the doll after all these years and suddenly it hit me. The doll was Karlsson on the Roof! I found one on the internet auction and bought one finally for myself. 25 years later I'm a happy owner of my very own Karlsson.

The curtain with the bunny I found on the flea market. Of course I had to buy for the future room of our little boy. It's cute.

Joulu ulos ja kevät sisään

Nuuttihan se viime perjantaina kävi ja vei kuusen mennessään ulos. Se oli kyllä vielä hyvin elinvoimainen. Taitaa kiitos kuulua isolle vesisangolle sen juurella. Ikkunoille jätin vielä kynttilät. Ne kun ovat jotenkin ihanat yövalot ja kun aamutkin ovat vielä niin pimeitä. Kuusen mentyä toin tietysti tilalle tulppaaneita. Tulppaanien takaa näkyy kaverini jo välipäivinä tuoma leikkokukka. Oikein kestävää laatua tuntuu olevan. En nyt vain saa millään päähäni sen nimeä. Olisiko leijonankukka?

Last Friday we took out the Christmas tree. It was in very good shape still with I owe thanks to the big bucket of water which it stood in. When the tree had been carried out I brought tulips in. Behind the tulips you can see a flower that a friend brought already over two weeks ago. It's still looking amazingly good. I just cannot remember what's it called. Maybe lion flower?

Helppoakin helpompi saaristolaisleipä

Tämäkin ohje on odottanut vuoroaan joulusta, mutten millään muka ehdi sitä tänne naputella. Tässä se tulee; maailman helpoimman vuokaleivän ohje. Olen aina luullut, että siirappisen ihanan limpun tekeminen olisi vaikeaa ja vaivalloista vaivaamisineen, mutta eihän se sitä olekaan. This receipt has waited for its turn for a while now. Somehow I have not seemed to find time to tap it in here. Here it is; a recipe for the world easiest syrup-rye-bread. It actually sounds weirder than it is. It's a lovely dark bread with a sweet taste. I've always thought that bread and this kind of bread especially takes a really longtime to make and is difficult to get right. But no, this was super easy. I got the receipt from my colleague already a year ago. You can find it here.

Olen törmännyt useasti ihaniin löytöihin netissä; muissa blogeissa tai verkkokaupoissa. Osoitteen olen laittanut tallelle kirjanmerkkeihin, kirjoittanut ylös johonkin tai tallentanut kuvia koneelle. Sitten kun tulee aika jälleen löytää tämä ihanuus, ei sitä paikallista sitten millään. Nyt meille kirjanmerkkipalkkinsa jo tukkoon tykittäneille on tullut ratkaisu pulmaan. Pinterest sivu on virtuaalinen muistitaulu, jonne voi merkitä muistiin haluamiaan verkkosivuja. Niistä muodostuu luomasi otsikon alle kiva kokonaisuus ja pystyt aina jäljittämään kuvan takaisin löytöpaikkaansa. Pystyt myös seurailemaan muitten löytöjä ja liittämään niitä omaan tauluusi. Oikein kiva ja kätevä. Ainut miinus on, että tarvitset Facebook tai Twitter -tilin aloittaaksesi. Pinterest löytyy täältä.

On many occasions I've stumbled upon lovely ideas and pictures over the internet. On other people' blogs or web stores. The address I've saved into my bookmarks, written down somewhere or uploaded photos. When it's time to find the site again often I cannot do so. Now for us who have filled their bookmark menu there's a solution. It's called Pinterest. It's a virtual memo board where you can pin up the stuff you've found online. You can also follow other people's finds. Really nice and handy. The only down side is that you need a Facebook or a Twitter account to start pinning.

Kaupunkiloma

Saimme puoliskani kanssa hieman taukoa lapsenhoidosta ja suuntasimme nokkamme yhdeksi yöksi kohti Tamperetta. Kaupunki oli tietenkin vielä jouluvaatteissa ja sää samanlainen kuin kotonakin. Se ei tunnelmaamme haitannut vaan nautimme kahdenolosta. Söimme hyvin, kävimme elokuvissa ja minä alennusmyynneissä.

Pakolliselta Ikean vierailulta ei puoliskani tälläkään kertaa välttynyt. Mukaan tarttui kaikenlaista muun muassa nämä Burken-purnukat. Ostin niitä vain kolme, mutta jos osoittautuvat käytössä hyviksi, voin hakea niitä vielä lisää. Etiketit purkkeihin naksuttelin tietenkin Dymollani. Laatikosta löysin markkinoilta ostamani pläkkyrin tekemän pienen kauhan. Sininen kauha on samanlainen, ja se on ollut käytössä aikoinaan osuuskaupassamme. Se tosin on jo niin nuhjuinen, ettei sitä voi enää ruoanlaitossa käyttää.

Mukavaa uudenvuoden aattoa! Huomenna onkin sitten jo ensi vuosi!

We got a little brake from taking care of the child and headed out to Tampere with my husband. We stayed over night, ate well, went to the movies and I got to do some shopping.

My husband could not escape from the mandatory Ikea trip. Among other things I bought these Burken-jars. I only bought three of them but if they turn out to be practical in use I can always buy more. The lanes I "printed" out with my old school Dymo. From one of the kitchen draws I found this little ladle I had bought from autumns market. The blue one was once in use in our shop but it is already a bit rusty so it cannot be used in cooking.

Kymmenen tunnin katkos

Tapaninpäivän myrskyn pahimmat tuulet puhalsivat ylistemme jo yön aikana. Aamulla jäljellä oli vain ajoittaisia puuskia. Tuhot olivat markillamme mitättömät; lumikolalla tuuli oli leikitellyt ja heittänyt sen pihan reunalle. Myös väliaikainen postilaatikkotelineemme oli ojan pohjalla.

Sähköt olivat poikki heti aamukahdeksasta. Meillä päin katkot ovat yleisiä ja yleensä viat saadaan korjattua tunnin kahden sisällä. Näin ei nyt kuitenkaan käynyt. Patteriradiosta kuuntelimme päivän uutisia ja hätätiedotteita. Muualle kaupunkiin sähköt saatiin jo kuuden tunnin odottelun jälkeen. Meidän piti odotella yhteensä kymmenen. Näinkin lyhkäisen katkon aikana ymmärtää, mikä se on elämisen kannalta tärkeää; vesi, lämpö ja keittomahdollisuus. Ainut juotavaksi kelpaava vesi oli kertaalleen lämmitetty teevesi vedenkeittimessä. Sitä lämmitimme uudelleen trangiassa. Polttonestettä retkikeittimeen ei ollut, joten lämmitimme kolmen tuikkukynttilän voimin. Onneksi ulkona on vuodenaikaan nähden lämmin, mutta pidimme kyllä takassa tulta.

Kipeä poikasemme nukkui onneksi kolmen tunnin päiväunet, mutta ei meinannut pimeän tullen ymmärtää, mistä on kyse. Puuha Peteä olisi haluttu vängällä katsoa. Lopulta kaivoin kannettavan esiin ja muutamat Puuha Petet ehdittiinkin katsoa ennen akun hyytymistä.

The Boxing day storm passed us during the night. The damage on our property was very minor. Wind had blown the snow shuffle across the yard and the temporary stand for our mailboxes didn't hold.

The power was off from eight o'clock in the morning. Occasionally we get power outages but usually they're fixed within an hour or two. This time that didn't happen. From a battery operated radio we listened to news and emergency reports. To the other parts of the town electricity came back with in six hours we had to wait for ours for 10 hours. Though the time period was relatively short you surely understand the basic needs; water, heat and possibility to cook. The only water worth drinking was once heated water in the kettle. We heated it for the second time in a camping cooker. Luckily it is relatively warm outside for this time of year but we still kept a fire going in the fireplace.

Our son who has a terrible cold took a long nap but couldn't quite understand when the darkness fell that what was going on. He desperately wanted to watch Bob the Builder. Eventually I took out my laptop and our son got to watch a few episodes before the battery ran out.

Hyvää joulua!

Laitettiin kuusi tänä vuonna tällaiseen sinkkiseen pöntöön. Pöntön sisällä on vielä tavallinen sanko täynnä vettä, jottei pitäisi kuusen janoon kuolla. Appelsiineja koristeltiin neilikoita ja saatiin lahjaksi "omenoita". Kyllä se omenafirma vain osaa lahjansakin niin tyylikkäästi paketoida, vai mitä olette mieltä? Mukavaa joulun jatkoa!

This year we put our Christmas tree into this bin. Inside there's a regular bucket filled with water so the tree shouldn't die of thirst this year. Oranges we embellished with some cloves and as a present we got some apples. Doesn't the apple company know how to wrap up their products for Christmas? Wishing you a Merry Christmas!

Punaposkinen lumiukko

Tänä aamuna oli musta maa muuttunut valkeaksi. Nurmikolle oli kertynyt juuri sopivasti lunta, josta pojusen kanssa pyörittelimme kolme palloa ja kasasimme niistä lumiukon. Nurmikosta irtosi ruohon pätkiä niin ukosta tuli hieman "karvainen". Ukon seistyä jo hetken ulkosalla muistin Martha Stewartin sivuilta löytämäni vinkin. Karamellivärillä punaiseksi värjättyä vettä suihkupullosta suihkien saa ukolle punaiset posket. Meillä ei punaista väriä ollut, mutta mustaherukkamehu ajoi saman asian.

This morning the ground had turned white yet again. There was just enough snow on our lawn to make a snow man. Small pieces of grass got stuck on the snow making our man a bit "hairy". The man had stood outside for a while when I remembered Martha Stewart's tip how to many his cheeks rosy. Spray some water colored with food coloring as red on to the cheeks. We didn't have any food colorants so I red regular red juice.

Hyasintti sammalpedillä

Viime viikonloppuna raahauduin kiireesti vielä metsään, kun luulin talven ja korkeiden kinosten tulevan. Raaputtelin lumikerroksen alta muutaman sammalen palasen ja toin ne sisälle sulamaan. Vaaleanpunaisen hyasintin (yleensä ostan violettisia, mutta kaupassa oli tasan kaksi jäljellä ja molemmat vaaleanpunaisia) asetin punaiseen emalikattilaan ja sammalet ja puolukanvarvut sen juurelle. Portugalista tuomani kukko-jääkaappimagneetti passaa sen kylkeen mainiosti.

Kultaisen väristä neljän kruunukynttilän jalkaa olen aikonani yrittäny myydä kirppiksellä huonolla tuurilla. Hintalappu sen pohjassa kertoo sen aikoinaan maksaneen 21 markkaa ja 90 penniä. Toin sen asunnon puolelle ja täytin sammalella. Oikein mukavan näköinen siitä tuli. Nyt sammaleen kuivuttua täytyy vain varoa, jotteivät loppuun palavat kynttilät sytytä tulipaloa. Näin Clas Ohlsonilla tällaisia liekkivahteja. Pitäisikö sijoittaa näihin?

Because the winter and high layers of snow seemed to be coming I hurried myself in to the woods to get some moss. I scraped together a few patches and brought them into the house to melt. I bought a pink hyacinth (usually I buy the purple ones but there were only two left in the store both pink) and put it in an old enamel kettle and the moss around it. I put a souvenir fridge magnet from Portugal on the side.

The golden color candle holder I've tried to sell unsuccessfully in the flea market. The price tag on the bottom reveals that I've payed 21,90 old Finnish marks for it. I brought it back from the storage and filled the base with some moss as well. It looks quite cute. Now when the moss has dried I have to be careful that it doesn't catch fire when the candles burn down. Maybe I have to invest in to these "flame guards" which I so at the local nicknack store.

Väliaikaista kaikki on vain

No ainakin tämä meidän uusi postilaatikkotelineemme, josei mikään muu. Perjantaina tuulessa ja tuiskussa meille rakennustarvikkeita tuonut rekka putosi ojaan vieden mukanaan meidän ja naapuriemme postilaatikot. Oikeassa laidassa oleva oma laatikkomme koki suurimmat tuhot kannen mennessä pirstaleiksi. Myös telineen metallinen runko vääntyi pahoin. Mieheni teki väliaikaisen telineen postilaatikoille puusta ja korvasi rikki menneen kannen mielestäni persoonallisella ratkaisulla. Se on niin painava, ettei tuuli jaksa sillä leikitellä. Onneksi mikään muu ei särkynyt eikä ihmisvahinkoja tullut. Rautakaupasta luvattiin vielä uudet postilaatikot – kaikki kolme.

Everything is temporary at least our new stand for mailboxes. On Friday when it was very windy and snowy the truck that brought us some construction materials fell into a ditch. On it's way dow it took our mailboxes with it. The box on the right is ours and it took most of the damage. The lid was in thousand pieces. Also the metallic stand was damage badly. My husband made this temporary stand and a new lid for our mailbox out of wood. The lid has personality I think. Also it's so heavy that not even the strongest wind can blow it open. Luckily the were no casualties or damage to other property. Also they promised to provide us new mailboxes – all three of them.

Kirja ja piparkakkuja

Sain ystävältäni jo viime viikolla ihanan paketin. Siellä oli Heli Lahdenrannan ja Ulla-Maija Lähteenmäen taivaallisen hienosti toteutettu sisustuskirja "K niin kuin koti". Hän arveli minun pitävänä siitä ja oikeassa oli. Kuvat ovat kerrassaan ihania ja taitto on herkullinen. Kirja on painettu vielä mukavan tuntuiselle mattapintaiselle paperille.

Itsenäisyyspäivänä leivoimme poikasen kanssa piparkakkuja. Muumit ovat nyt in, niimpä niitä päätyi yksi jos toinenkin pellille.

Last week a got a parcel in the post from my friend. She had sent me this wonderful book by Heli Lahdenranta and Ulla-Maija Lähteenmäki (K niin kuin koti) about different styles in people's homes. She thought I might like it and boy was she right. The pictures are lovely and the layout is gorgeous. The book is printed on this matt paper which feel nice.

On our independence day we baked some gingerbreads with my son. The moomins are in this year so we have a lot of cookies in that shape this year.

Balsamico

Joskus olen salaattiini pirskottanut balsamiviinietikkaa. Maku on ollut oikein passeli, mutta koostumus aivan liian vetistä ja se on päätynyt lautasen pohjalle lammikoksi. Nyt ongelma on ratkaistu. Rajamäen on tuonut markkinoille tällaista tykympää tavaraa. Se pysyy juuri siinä missä pitääkin. Kuvassa se näyttäisi olevan kuin lakritsikastiketta, mutta vaikka koostumus on sama, maku on aivan toinen. Suosittelen.

Occasionally I've used balsamic as dressing on my salad. The taste has been perfect but the consistency not so much. The stuff has ended up on the bottom of the plate in a big pond. Now Rajamäen has solved the problem and has brought to the market this balsamic dressing which is much thicker than the normal dressing. It stays where it's supposed to stay. I warmly recommend it.

Rengaskranssi

Ideaa tähän en ole keksinyt itse vaan kunnia kuuluu jollekin muulle. Löysin kuvan jostakin blogista, jota en etsinnöistä huolimatta löytänyt uudelleen. Itse käytin autonrengasta, mutta malli-ideassa oli käytetty pienempää rengasta esim. kottikärryn sellaista. Mallissa rengas oli laitettu roikkumaan punaisella kuormaliinalla. Meillä oli ainoastaan oranssisia, jotka eivät aivan näihin joulun väreihin sovi, joten sovelsin hieman. Sydämen kiinnityslenkistä tuli myös liian lyhyt, joten jouduin sitä hieman jatkamaan. Kankaana sydämeen käytin tuulipukukangasta, josko se vähänpitäisi kosteutta poissa, vaikka rengas onkin suojassa suoralta sateelta. Kranssi koristaa autotallin ovipieltä. Siinä mielestäni oli sille oivallinen paikka.

The glory from this tire decoration I cannot take to myself. I found it in a blog but although I tried I could not find it again. In the original idea the tire was smaller and the "ribbon" to hang it from was this strong red binding belt(?). We only had orange binding belts so I had to use my imagination. The tire is hanging from the side of our garage. I thought that was the most suitable place for it don't you think?

Joulukuvauksia

Pojalle joulureleet päälle ja naps vain kuva joulukorttia varten. No kaikkihan ei aina suju suunnitelmien mukaan kuten voi odottaa, kun mallina on 2 kuukautta vaille 2-vuotias poika. Lakki ei pysynyt päässä eikä poika tuolilla. Muumikeksien voimalla tuolilla istuttiin muutaman ruudun ajan, mutta sitten taas jo mentiin. Saas nähdä löytyykö yhtäkään käyttökelpoista.

Dress the kid up in Christmas spirit and snap take a picture for the christmas card. Well everything doesn't always go according to plan when there's a boy just under two years of age as the model. The hat didn't stay on and the boy didn't stay on the chair. With the help of some cookies I got him to sit still for a few frames but then we went again. We'll have to see if any of the frames are suitable for the cards.

Etikettien aatelia

Minäpä luulin, että nämä perinteiset mustat kohokirjaimiset etiketit ovat jo historiaa, mutta ehei! Nostalginen Dymo tarrakirjoitin roikkui Clas Ohlsonilla hyllyn piikissä. Ostettavahan se oli. Siihen on vielä saatavissa hyvin tarrojakin myös punaisia ja sinisiä. Nyt pitää vain hillitä itsensä, jottei jokaista purkkia ja purnukkaa merkitse. Se vaan on jotenkin niin terapeuttista naksutella kohokirjaimia tulemaan.

I thought that these old traditional labelmakers were history but nooooo. I found this nostalgic Dymo labelmaker at Clas Ohlson. I just had to have it. The label is also available in red and blue. Now I just have to control myself so I don't make a label to everything in our house. It just is so therapeutic start clicking embossed letters on to the tape.

Jokimaisema

Meiltä on matkaa jokirantaan noin 300 metriä ehkäpä vähemmänkin. Tämä uomassaan virtaava vesi ei kuitenkaan meille näy. Autotallin ikkunat ovat suoraan sinne päin, mutta naapurin talo tukkii näkymän. Asunnon puolella ikkunat ovat myös siihen suuntaan, mutta kappas autotalli tukkii taas sen näkymän. Löysimme yhden ainoan kohdan, josta jokinäkymää ei tuki autotalli eikä naapuri. Ikkuna/parvekkeen ovi tulevasta makuuhuoneestamme on suoraan joelle päin, mutta eipä taida se syväksi ruopattu joki sittenkään näkyä.

Remontti muuten edistyy kuten näkyy oikean puolimmaisesta. Vielä kesän alussa siellä näytti tältä.

From our house it's about 300 meters or less to the river. But we don't have direct view from our house to it. The windows in the garage face straight towards it but the neighbor's house is blocking the view. Well the windows in our living space are also towards the river but what you'll know our own garage is blocking the view. We found one spot in our house where the view is not blocked by the neighbor or our garage. The window/balcony door from our future bedroom faces the river. Though I still don't think we'll get our river view the river runs so deep after years of dredging.

The renovation is progressing as you can see from the picture on the right. At the beginning of the summer it looked like this.

Vielä löytyi julkaisemattomia kuvia meidän tuvastamme. Tässä kuvia keittiöstä ja ruokailutilasta, jotka ovat yhtä isoa tilaa. Punainen jääkaappi on kulkeutunut miehen sedän tyköä meille. I still found some unpublished pictures of our house. These are from the kitchen and diningroom which are one big space only cut in half by a counter. The red refrigerator is from my husbands uncle. On it's way here it stopped at a carpainter and the creamy white surface was covered with this glowing red. It is an original Bosch. I guess it is well over 30 years of age.

Ooops! It lookes like the lowest picture is here on a second run. But let's not let that bother us.

Eurooppalainen ruokatori

Elokuussa Seinäjoelle parkkeerasi kolonnansa ranskalainen tori. Nyt viime viikolla saimme jatkoa, kun torille asettautui eurooppalainen ruokatori. Tarjolla oli juustoja, patonkeja, suklaata, saippuaa, toffeeta, oliiveja ynnä muita ihanuuksia. Ostin palan makoista piparminttutoffeeta ja kuivatun laventelikimpun. Kimpusta lähtee huumaava tuoksu, vaikka se onkin muovipussissa. Hieman toista luokkaa kuin nämä itse kasvattamani. Tekisinkö näistäkin tuoksupusseja?

Keräsin vielä kukkakimpun pihalta. Nyt rupeaa jo olemaan kukkaset vähissä, mutta vihreää vielä löytyy jonkin verran.

In August we got a visit from a French Market. Original French food and novelties sold by French. This moving colony came back and visited the city where I work last week. This time the theme was European Marketplace. They had cheeses, baguettes, chocolates, soaps, toffee, olives and other lovely things for sale. I bought a piece of pepperscotch fudge and a bouquet of lavender. The sent is literally breath taking and stronger than in the ones I've grown myself. Should I make scented bags out of these ones as well?

I was still able to pick up flowers from outside. It's getting difficult to find blooming ones but greenery has not suffered from the cold. Not just yet.

Halloween tunnelmista kirjoitan vielä vähän lisää. Löysin kaapin perukoilta korin, jonka spraymaalasin (tietenkin) mustaksi ja sidoin siihen oranssisen satiinirusetin. Täytin sen halloweenin värisillä mandariineilla kukkuralleen.

Sain ajalliseksi leipoa muffinsejakin, joihin käytin aikaisemmin ostamiani muffinssivuokia. Löysin samasta kaapista kuin korinkin nämä oranssiset Aarikan peltiset tarjottimet. Kaksi pienempää ja yhden ison. Ne sopivat teemaan oivallisesti.

Hakiessani satiininauhaa ostin samalla organzaa. Oranssista ja mustaa tietenkin! Niistä väsäsin rintakorun, joka on kuvassa vasemmalla. Korista ylijääneestä satiininauhasta ja Tiimarista ostamastani pääkallonauhasta tekaisin oikealla näkyvän rintakorun.

I'm going to write a bit more about our halloween feelings. I found this old basket for the cupboard and spraypainted it black and tied a orange satinribbon around it. I filled it with orange satsumas.

I got around to bake some cupcakes for the paper cupcake forms I had bought earlier. Also as I found the basket I found these great orange-and-black tin servingplates made by a Finnish company called Aarikka. They're perfect for the halloween theme.

When I bought the satinribbon for the basket I also bought some organza; orange and black of course! Out of them I made the brooch on the right. From the left over ribbon from the basket and some skull ribbon I had bought I made the brooch on the right.

Amerikkalaisten krääsäjuhla halloween se tekee jo tuloaan. Sain ajalliseksi siivota ja sen kunniaksi nostin perinteiset halloweenkoristeeni esille. Uusia hipelöin kyllä Tiimarissa, mutta en ostanut kuin kimalteisia kurpitsa- ja lepakkopahvifiguureja ja muffinssivuokia. Pääsiäisen keltaisiin kynttilöihin laitoin puiset kurpitsakoristeet tarralla. Täytyy vain muistaa ottaa ne pois, kun kynttilä palaa sinne asti. Oli kyllä tosi huonoja kynttilöitä. Uloin keltainen kerros vain rapisi pois, kun painoin ne kynttilänjalkaan.

The american "nick-nack" holiday Halloween is on it's way. I cleaned the house and put up my traditional holiday decorations. I was in Tiimari (a Finnish nick-nack store) but only bought some cardboard pumpkins, bats and cupcake forms. To the Easter yellow candles I put wooden pumpkin stickers. I just have to remember to take them away when the candle reaches that far. The candles were very poor quality. The outer layer of yellow just crumbled away when I put them into the candleholder.

Keväisten puunkaatojen seurauksena tontillemme jäi muutamia aika isojakin kantoja. Alkuviikosta mies tuli koneen kanssa ja jyrsi ne pois. Nyt kantojen sijaan meillä on isoja kasoja tällaista puumoskaa. Se on oikein oivallista kuorikatetta, kun en ole sellaista raaskinut pikku säkeissä kaupasta raahata enkä ole selvitellyt, mistä sitä suurempia eriä saisi. Etupihan puskien alustat jo sillä kuorrutin.

Because of the trees we took down in the spring we were left with big treestumps in our garden. This week a man came and gnaw them away. Instead of stumps we now have these big piles of this tree shavings. It's perfect to cover up flower beds to keep the weeds away.

Olen seurannut silloin tällöin Parolan asema -blogia. Kirjoittaja on nyt myös kirjailija ja hän on ensitöikseen julkaissut tuunaajan unelmakirjan; Vintagen viemää. Kirjan sivut on täytetty kauniilla kuvilla ja nerokkailla ohjeilla. Itse olen niin laiska tuunari, että jotkut ovat aivan liian työläitä minulle. Toki eihän ohjeita ole koskaan tehty noudatettavaksi vaan aina voi oikaista.

Spraymaali on kyllä maailman kätevintä. Sain sisareltani aikoinaan rottinkisen pikku polkupyörän, jonka kyytillä on paikka kukalle. Kukka kuoli ja sisareni perheineen toi minulle uuden. Ajattelin, että myös pyörän on uudistuttava. Suih ja spraymaalia pintaan. Uusi kukka ja pyörän uudet vaatteet.

Now and again I've followed a blog called Parolan asema. The writer is now also an author. She has published a book for crafters called "Vintagen viemää". The pages are filled with beautiful pictures and clever crafting ideas. I'm such a lazy crafter that some of the work are way too complicated for me. Though aren't instructions meant to be ignored? I'm good in cutting corners.

Spraypaint must be the most handiest thing in the world. I've gotten this bicycle for a houseplant from my sister. Well the plant died and I got a new one yet again from my sister and her family. For the new plant I decided the bicycle must also renew itself with a little help from white spraypaint.

Viikonloppu vierähti kulttuurin merkeissä. Kävimme kaksistaan puoliskani kanssa syömässä ja teatterissa katsomassa Dance with the Vampires -musikaalin. Kyllä olivat laittaneet parastaan. Eritoten puvustus ja lavastus olivat mahtavia. Sillä välin kun nautimme kulttuuriannista, poikasemme oli ammattajineen kerännyt taaperokärryihin koristeomenoita.

Sunnuntaina pääsin vielä käymään Design Sunnuntaissa Seinäjoen Rytmikorjaamolla. Vaikka tapahtuma oli uusi, keräsi se mukavasti myyjiä ja vierailijoitakin. Ostin sieltä tämän vanhasta lusikasta tehdyn avaimenperän. Aiva kiva idea!

The spent a cultural weekend. Together with my husband we went for dinner and a musical "Dance with the Vampires". The musical was great especially the scenic and wardrope design were amazing. While we enjoyed our culture dose our son with his nannys had collected these "fruits" from our lawn into the stroller.

On Sunday I got to visit this event called "Design Sunnuntai" in Rymikorjaamo Seinäjoki. Though the event was new it gathered together quite a lot craftsmen and women. I bought this keychain made out of an old spoon. Nice idea don't you think?

Tässä vielä muutamia otoksia, jotka jäivät yli Kotivinkin jutusta. Jotenkin tuota punaista on päätynyt kämppäämme. En ole sitä tietoisesti hakenut, se on vain tänne kulkeutunut. Hassua. Vierasvessaan laitoimme paneelit seiniin vaakaan. Ne ovat toimineet niin hyvin, että taidan haluta niitä myös tuonne uuden puolen vessaan. Punaiset pikkukehykset ovat tuliainen Islannista. Samaten kuvan niiden sisällä. Vanhan stetoskoopin löysin omituisesta vanhojen tavaroiden liikkeestä Tukholmasta.

Here are a few more pictures that were left over from the article in Kotivinkki. Somehow there's a lot of red in our house. I have not intentionally searched for it, it just has somehow found it's way here. That's funny. In the guest bathroom we have put up this wood "lining". It has worked so well that I think we're going to put some up also in the new extension. The little red pictureframes are from Island and so are the pictures in them. The old stethoscope I found in an antique shop in Stockholm.

Lämpöinen syksy on tuottanut jälleen ihania värejä. Oikein piti tarkoituksella lähteä pihalle kuvaamaan leiskuvia oransseja, keltaisia ja ruskeita. Taivaskin värjäytyi eräänä iltana niin kauniisti, että pakko se oli tallentaa. Tosin kuvassa se ei ole läheskään yhtä hieno kuin livenä. Täältä löytyvät toissa vuotiset syksyn värit.

The warm autumn has yet again created wonderful colours. I had to go out side and capture the strong oranges, yellows and browns. One evening even the sky got dressed up. Though it doesn't look even half as good in the pictures as it looked on the scene. How the autumn colours looked two years ago you can find here.

Mitä siitä tulee, kun aina saa tahtonsa läpi? No pyöreä ikkuna tietenkin! Tämä pyörylä nostettiin paikalleen eilen ja kyllä olen sitä ihastellut. Hintaa sillä oli melkein kahden normaali ikkunan verran, mutta on se vain sen arvoinen. Voi kun saadaan vain ulkolaudoitus kohdilleen ja "raamit" sen ympärille. Valoa se tulee päästämään pojusen huoneeseen.

What comes of it when you always get what you want? A round window of course! Her Majesty the Roundness was put to it's place yesterday and I have gazed at it many times. The price was almost the cost of two normal windows but I think it was money well spent. I just cannot wait for the outer lining of the house and getting a "frame" around the window. It's going to let light inside our son's room.

Meikäläiselle tuli viime viikolla ruskea kirjekuori, jonka sisällä oli No 7:n kauneusseerumi. Olin voittanut sen nelosen järjestämässä kilpailussa! Mitä ihmettä, tuntuu etten ikinä voita mitään?!? Nyt olen lotrannut seerumia kasvoilleni ahkerasti. Tuloksia odotellessa...

Störmsössä kävi tuttua väkeä esittelemässä Orginaal lehteä. Tilasin oitis itselleni kopion täältä. Lehden sivuilla on paljon tuttuja kasvoja ja esittelyssä ihanaa rannikon menoa ja meininkiä. Hauska lehti ja ennen kaikkea visuaalinen.

Syksyn kylmyyden ja pimeyden tunkiessa tupaan sisälle, uusista ikkunoista huolimatta, on mukava sytyttää takkaan tuli. Viikonloppuna siinä muutamat makkaratkin paistelimme. Kyllä tuli vaan on mukava tunnelman luoja. Pitänee kohta kaivaa kynttilätkin esiin.

Last week I got an brown envelope in the mail. It turned out I had wont No7's beauty serum! What in the world? I usually never win anything. Now I've been putting the serum on to my face regularly. Waiting for the results....

In FinnishSwedish tv-program called Strömsö they presented a magazine called "Orginaal". I noticed a few familiar faces and had to order the magazine from here. There were even more familiar faces on the pages. A fun magazine and very visual indeed.

When the fall reaches with it's cold and dark loins in to the house it is nice to put a fire in the fireplace. On the weekend we even warmed up some sausages in it. Fire really is the ideal mood creator. Soon I have to get the candles out as well.

Ostimme uudet ikkunat sekä uuteen laajennusosaan että myös tähän vanhalle puolelle. Tässä meillä oli vielä alkuperäiset yli 50 vuotta vanhat ikkunat. Peittelin pöytiä ja piironkeja muoveilla ja lakanoilla. Se tuli kyllä tarpeeseen, kun tuuli heitteli moskia pirin pärin asuntoa. Nyt ikkunat ovat paikoillaan vain listoja vaille.

We bought new windows for the hole house. We had original windows still which were over 50 years old. I covered furniture under plastic and sheets. And boy was that a good thing. The wind blew all the small trashes all around the apartment. Now the windows are in place. All we need is the moldings around them.

Kirpparilta kyytiini tarttui tässä päivänä eräänä tämä mainio Fisher Pricen lentokone. Se on ilmeisesti 70-luvulta, niin ainakin siinä kiinni olleessa lappusessa luki. Sain sen ja kyydissä olleet neljä matkustajaa vain viidellä eurolla.

Olohuoneeseen pystytettiin eilen pojusen avustuksella tämä punavalkoinen teltta. Työkaverini oli siivonnut komeroitaan ja antoi tämän ihanuuden meille. Yksi putki oli mennyt hukkaan, mutta se ei menoa paljon haittaa. Ikkunassa oleva reikä on pojan mielestä vain plussaa.

This old Fisher Price plane I bought from a fleamarket. I got it and the four passengers on it for just 5 euros. It's form the 70's at least that's what it said on the pricetag.

Yesterday I put together this tent with our boy. My work colleague had cleaned his closets and found this tent belonging to his son's. He gave it to our little boy which was very nice. One of the tent "tubes" had gone missing but it doesn't matter. And the hole in the window just adds excitement at least to our son.

En voinut olla ostamatta tätä paketillista teetä, kun silmäni kohtasivat sen ja muut ystävänsä kaupan hyllyllä. Voiko kauniimpaa pakettia olla? Kerrassaan ihastuttavaa designia. Paketteja oli useita erilaisia ja päädyin tähän appelsiiniteeheen. Se on aika laimeaa verrattuna thaimaalaiseen inkivääriteehen, jota ostin toissa viikolla. Molemmat ovat kyllä hyviä omalla tavallaan.

I could not resist the temptation to buy this tea packet when I noticed on the supermarket's shelf. Can you imagine a more beautiful package? I just adore the design. They were lots of different teas to choose form all with this gorgeous design. I chose orange tea. It is quite mild compared to the ginger tea which I bought from a Thai store last week. They're both good in their own way.

Joku tuoliaddiktio minua kyllä vaivaa, koska en taaskaan voinut vastustaa kierrätyskeskuksessa nököttänyttä tuolia. Sen kaunis puupinta ja ihana muoto vetivät puoleensa eikä hintakaan ollut luotaan työntävä. Selkänojaan liimattuun maalarinteippiin oli raapustettu hinta 12 euroa. Matkalla kassalle tipahti siitä vielä puolet pois. Ihan mukava istuin 6 eurolla vai mitä? Päällisen nurkat ovat vain puhki, mutta muutoin tuoli on oikein priimaa.

I think I have some sort of a chair addiction. Yet again I could not resist this chair which I laid my eyes on in the fleamarket. It's beautiful wood and lovely shape drawn me to it. And the price was also right. It stood 12 euros on it and when took it to the cashregister the price was cut in half. A pretty good chair for just 6 euros or what do you think? The cover has gotten holes from the sharp edges but other wise the chair is in good condition.

Muistakaatte nyt ihmiset hakea suojaan pihalle kesäksi viedyt sisäkukat. Omani hain tässä juuri. Ovat siellä niin hyvin pärjänneet, jotta tämäkin sitruunapuu on tyrkännyt paljon uusia vihreitä lehtiä. Mittaakin se on kasvanut runsaasti.

Poikasta nukuttuessani nappasin ojan pientareelta kyytiini tällaisen kukkakimpun. Kukat ovat heränneet kuin toiselle kierrokselle. Lupiinejakin muutama oli erehtynyt uudestansa kukkaan. Samettikukat nappasin tuolta omasta penkistäni. Tänä vuonna ne eivät menestyneet niin hyvin kuin edellisvuonna. Liekö syynä puutarhurin laiskuus kantaa niille vettä.

Please remember to bring back in the plants you have taken outside for the summer. The nights are getting mighty cold. I just brought mine back in and they've seamed to have enjoyed their summer out. The citrus tree is looking very green and has grown in height quite a lot.

I picked up these flowers from the road side. I cannot believe that the flowers have started a second round this year. Even a few lupines have started to blossom for the second time. The big orange flowers are from my garden.

Diagnoosi Otodectes Cynotis

Se alkoi siitä, kun kattimme toinen korva oli aika ajoin lerpallaan. Sen jälkeen alkoi jatkuva ravaaminen ja lopulta se yltyi niin kovaksi, että kissu raapi korvansa verille. Lääkärillehän siitä oli lähdettävä. Diagnoosi oli selvä; Otodectes Cynotis eli suomeksi korvapunkki. Kertalääkinnällä ei-toivotuille vieraille annettiin kyytiä ja nyt olo on jo paljon parempi.

Kissumme kellii nykyään ladon päätyyn unohtuneessa isossa kukkapurkissa. Se on juuri sopivan kokoinen, että siihen on mukava pyöräyttää itsensä kerälle.

It started when our cat's other ear was a bit droopy. After that started the scratching and it became so violent that he got lacerations in his ears. So we had to drive to the vet. The diagnosis was very clear; Otodectus Cynotis. That is ear mites in plain English. One dose of medicine should take care of the problem and now the cat is feeling way better.

Our cat likes to lay in this big flowerpot which I have left on the side of the barn. It is perfectly rounded for his shape.

Sänky saaresta

Jo vuosi sitten tämän ihana vanhan penkkisängyn piti tulla kattomme alle, mutta emme vain saaneet ajalliseksi hakea sitä porukoitteni mökiltä. Nyt intaannuimme sen sieltä hakemaan ennen talvea, koska jäiden tultua saarelle pääseminen on vähän niin ja näin. Tämä on taas yksi niitä hommia, joiden tekemistä jahkuu monta aikaa ja itse asiassa sänky nostettiin paattiin ja soudettiin toiselle rantaa alle vartissa. Nyt sänky majailee varastossamme, josta se aikanaan siirtyy pojusen huoneeseen hänen sängykseen. En taida sitä maalata, kunnon pesu riittää. Nyt vain pitäisi jostakin löytää sopivan kokoinen patja.

Pojusen pipon ostin markkinoilta. Eikös olekin sievä? Se on ruotsalaisen Maxomorran.

Already last year this old bed was promised to me. I just didn't seem to have time to pick it up from my folks summercottage. This weekend we decided to finally go and get it. The cottage is in an island so during the wintertime it is quite hard to reach. This is yet again one of those things which are hard to start but like always it took less than 15 minutes to pack the bed into the boat and row it across to the other side. Now the bed is in storage waiting for our son's room to be ready so it'll be his bed. I don't think I'm gonna paint it just a good old scrub will do. Now I have to start hunting for a mattress that fits this smaller than regular bed.

The shark hat for our son I just bought. Isn't it cool? It's made by the Swedish Maxomorra.

Shortsit

Kesä se jo syksyksi muuttuu ja olen vallan unohtanut bloggailla poikaselle tekemistäni shortseista. Sain yhtäkkiä kesän kynnyksellä vimman, että pojalle on saatava vanhan ajan henkiset lyhyt pulttuiset (lahkeiset) shortsit. Sellaiset puoli reiteen ylettyvät ja hieman pussimaiset. Tällaiset niistä tuli. Ei siis yhtään sellaiset kuin olin ajatellut. Poika kun on vielä pienempi mitä kuvittelin ja lahkeista tulikin tuollaiset polvimittaiset. Jouduin kankaankin leikkaamaan kahteen otteeseen, kun ensimmäisellä kerralla en ymmärtänyt peffaan jättää vaippavaraa. Onneksi päiväpeittoon ostamaani lentokonekangasta oli vielä sen verran jäljellä, että oli varaa leikata väärin. Jonkin sorttista apua puuhaani löysin täältä. Kuvassa sortsit ovat olleet jo kovalla käytöllä. Huomaa ihana ruohotahra polvessa.

Already the summer is turning in to Autumn and I've forgotten to blog about these paper bag shorts which I made for the baby in the spring. Suddenly I just had an urge that the little boy has to have these old-fashioned babyboy shorts. I imagined them in the middle of the thigh in length and a little pouchy. Well they turned out like this. Not quite like I had thought. I even had to cut the fabric twice because I did not put enough space for the diaper the first time. I found the directions for the shorts here. In the picture the shorts have already been in heavy use. Notice the grass stain on the knee.

Perhoskakku ja kaniinilaukku

Ja vielä yhdet nimipäivät osuivat tälle kuulle. Pienen pojumme toiset sellaiset. Sain tädiltäni tällaisia syötäviä perhosia kakun päälle laitettavaksi, joten kakuksi päätin juhlille tehdä perhosen. Halkaisin tavallisen pyöreän kakkupohjan keskeltä kahtia ja laitoin palaset seläkkäin. Väliin laitoin uutta kuningatarrahkaa sekoitettuna Flora vispiin ja vielä vadelmahilloakin. Päälle pursotin loput vaahdot ja painelin pinnalle perhoset.

Lahjaksi tilasin pojulle jo aikoja sitten tällaisen Petteri Kaniini peltilaukun. Ajattelin josko se olisi sopiva säilytyspaikka pikkuautoille. Tähän saakka salkussa on kuljetettu vain pyykkipoikaa. Laukku on muuten täältä, jos kiinnostuit.

There was one more nameday in our calendar for August. Our son had his second one on Thursday. From my I aunt I got these lovely eatable butterflies to put on top of the cake so of course the cake had to be a butterfly as well. I cut a regular round cakebottom in two and placed their backsides together filled it with raspberry jam and whipped cream. On top the rest of the whipped cream and the butterflies.

As a present I ordered a long time ago this Peter Rabbit tin suitcase. I thought it would be a good place to put all the small cars but until now it only has one clothes pin inside. I bought the suitcase here if you got interested.

Nyt se sitten loppui. Niin nopeasti kuin se alkoikin. Kesäloma. Paluu arjen aikatauluihin tuntuu omituiselta ja vaikealta ainakin aamuisin. Josko kuitenkin tähän tottuisi. So now it is over. Our summer holiday. Today was the hard return to normal life and timetables. Hopefully I get used to these early mornings. The picture above tells everything about our holiday. Jo tuttuun tapaan pakkasimme Amerikan automme ja suuntasimme nokkamme kohti Forssaa ja harrasteajoneuvojen picknickiä. Tällä kertaa olimme ajoissa perillä ja saimme hyvän paikan nurmikolta. Siihen passasi levittää viltin ja päivänvarjon ja katsoa kun toinen toistaan muikeampi Amerikan peli rullasi ohitsemme. Poikaamme autovillitys on jo tarttunut ja aika kului sormi ojossa ja hokiessa "autoauto".

It has almost become a tradition to pack up our American car and head out to Forssa on the first weekend of August. A large number of american car fanatics gather together for a picnic. This time we headed out early and got a good place on the grass field. It was the prefect place to spread out our picnic blanket and umbrella. There we sat and looked when wonderful American cars rolled by. Our son has already caught the car bug. With his finger pointing he kept saying the "carcar" mantra over and over again.

Kuten on jo todettu suvussamme juhlitaan nimipäiviä. Pienen tyttösen ensimmäiset sellaiset olivat viime sunnuntaina. Tein tyttelille tällaisen pienoisen kisulin. Se oli tekeillä jo kastajaisiksi, mutta siitä näytti tulevan niin omituinen, että jätin aihion sikseen. Nyt kaivoin sen kaapin perältä ja täytin vanulla. Yllätyksekseni siitä tulikin ihan kivan näköinen. Joitaikin tekemättä jääneitä virkkauksia varten olin ostanut näitä uusia Novitan minikeriä. Niistä löysin langat kissan kasvoihin. Kerät ovat kyllä kerta kaikkisen ihania. Pieniä ja sieviä.

As I already told you in our family we celebrate namedays. Last Sunday a little girl had her first nameday. As I present I made her this small kitty. I planned to make it for her christening party but the sewing did not seem to go as well as I had planned so I dumped the thing into a closet. Now I dug it out and filled it with cotton wool. To my surprise it did not turn out bad at all. For the face I used thread from these lovely small balls of wool made by Novita. Aren't they just plain cute?

Mustang tournee

Mustang harrastajat kokoontuivat viikonloppuna tänne Etelä-Pohjanmaalle. Mekin kokosimme roippeet ja liityimme seuraan. Koko perheen voimin ajoimme lauantaina 55 mailia pitkän cruisingin halki naapuripitäjien. Poikanen jaksoi kohtuullisesti koko matkan, vaikka kaikki naksut oli perille päästyämme jo aikoja sitten syöty ja kirjat kahlattu useaan otteeseen läpi. Onneksi sää oli poutapilvinen niin lämpötila ei autossa noussut turhan korkeaksi. Ennen cruisailua otimme perhepotretin, joka näkyy oikeassa yläkulmassa.

Last weekend the Finnish Mustang owners gathered together for a Fun Run here in our neighborhood. So did we and joined the merry party. Our hole family took part in the 55 mile long cruising on Saturday. Our son kept up the good behavior for quite a long time. Though all the snacks were eaten and all the books read for a few times before we arrived to our destination. Luckily the weather was cloudy so the temperature did not get too high in the car. Before the cruise we decided to take a family portrait. You can see it on the upper right corner.

Tiipii taivasalla

Päivät ovat olleet ihanan lämpimiä ehkä jo liiaksikin. Ollaan oleiltu aamusella ja iltasella ulkona, mutta keskipäivät olemme viettäneet sisätiloissa. Kuumuus kun käy jo aika ajoin liialliseksi. Eräänä iltana pojun jo nukkuessa päätin väsätä aamuksi hälle yllätyksen. Etsin viisi sopivan mittaista riman pätkää ja vanhat verhot. Rimojen päät kiinnitin kotinarulla ja verhot pyöräytyin niiden ympärille. Vielä muutama pyykkipoika varmistamaan verhojen pysyvyyttä ja avot tiipii oli valmis. Matto ja viltti vain sisälle. Pojunen oli aluksi hieman kummastuksissaan, mutta hetken päästä jo loikoili teltan sisällä. Sitten kun saamme pojalle oman huoneen ajattelin väsätä tällaisen myös sisälle. Ehkäpä kuitenkin hieman tyylikkäämmän. Kotivinkissä oli siihen jo ohjekin. Sen löydät täältä.

The days have been very warm partly even hot. We stayed indoors during the middle day because the hotness starts to get to you. One evening when the boy was sound asleep I made him a little tipi. Five stick tied together and old curtains to cover them up. A rug and a blanket inside to cover the grass. The boy looked at it at first with hesitance but not soon after he lied in it watching the "ceiling". Once we get the room ready for the child I would like to get a tipi inside as well. But some what nicer. I even found the directions for it already. They're here.

Lomailua lähellä

Poikasemme kun on vasta puolitoista vuotias niin häntä ei vielä tarvitse viedä Lintsille tai Särkänniemeen. Jossakin kuitenkin on kesällä kiva käydä, joten päätimme tänään lomailla ihan kotonurkilla ja kävimme kotieläintilalla. Possut ja poni olivat hieman pelottavia, mutta kohta niihinkin ystävystyttiin.

Our son is just 18 months old so there's no need to take him to amusement parks just yet. It would be nice to visit somewhere I thought and today we took a ride to a close by farm which has farmanimals on the show. Little piggies and the pony were scary but after a while they turned out to be as friendly as the rabbits.

Kyllä vaan meidän suvussamme juhlimme myös nimipäiviä! Koska kaikkien perheenjäsentemme synttärit osuvat vuoden kylmimpään ajankohtaan, on mukava kutsua vieraita myös kesäiseen kakkupöytään. Sääennustukset lupasivat jokaisella kanavalla kaatosadetta juuri täksi päiväksi. Toisin kuitenkin kävi. Taivaalta ei tullut tipan tippaa ja sain katettua kahvipöydän suunnitelmieni mukaan meidän pienen pienelle välipihallemme. Ripustelin häihiimme ostetut puutarhalamput pihan ylle ja raahasimme puutarhatuolit ja -pöydän ensimmäistä kertaa tänä kesänä ulos.

Tarjolle tein helppoja suolapaloja, appelsiinimarmeladileivoksia ja elämäni ensimmäisen pavlovan. Suolapaloihin käytin Linkosuon uusia valkosipulin makusia ruissipsejä. Pursotin niihin täytteeksi pippurituorejuustoa. Leivosten ohjeen löydät täältä ja pavlovan resepti majailee täällä. Pavlovan marengin tein omalla ohjeellani. Minä kun en oikein ymmärrä, miksi marenkiin täytyy seata maissitärkkelystä ja valkoviinietikkaa. Kaippa niillä joku tarkoitus kuitenkin on.

Ou yes! In our family we celebrate name days as well as birthdays. Because all of my familymembers have their birthday during the coldest time of the year it is lovely to invite people over for cake during the summer time as well. On every channel the weather forecast was very poor for today. Extremely rainy and also promise of heavy thundering. Well it did not rain at all and I got to put up my coffeetable on our small courtyard. I put up some gardenlights which we have had since our wedding. We took out the gardenfurniture from storage (it was about time) for the first time this summer.

For the coffeetable I made small salty snacks, orange marmalade pastries and a strawberry pavlova. For the salty snack I used Linkosuo's (Finnish bakery) new crispy rye chips. I filled them up with some pepper cheese. The recipe for the pastries you'll find in here and for the pavlova here. For the pavlova I made the meringue using my own recipe because I don't like mixing corn starch or vinegar into my dow.

Lomalla innostuu mitä omituisimmista asioista. Päätin putsata kukkapenkkien reunat rikkakasveista. Tämä toimenpide olisi pitänyt tehdä jo aikoja sitten kuten kuvasta näkyy. Ei ole vaikeaa huomata, missä ollaan menossa. Hommaa vauhdittamaan ostin uudet puutarhahanskat. Ovat oikein hyvät ja pitävät hieman vettäkin.

Yritin tehdä itselleni tyllialushametta, vaikka ohje oli hyvä tuli siitä niin toispuoleinen, että päädyin tilaamaan valmiin hameen netistä. Se tuli kaukaa Kiinasta asti ja vieläpä kotiin kuljetuksella. Tyllihameen ohjeen löydät täältä, jos sinä onnistuisit siinä paremmin.

Appivanhemmilla oli 40 vuotis hääpäivä. Tekaisin heille kortin. Se näkyy vasemmassa ylänurkassa.

When you're on holiday you get excited almost about everything. I decided to do some gardening and pick up all the weeds. It's not hard to tell from the picture where the process is going on. To speed things up I bought new garden gloves. They're very nice and they keep the water out as well.

I tried to make a tulle underskirt myself. Though the directions were very good the outcome was not. I decided to order a ready made skirt from internet. It came home delivered straight to my doorstep from China. If you want to try to make the skirt for your self you can find the directions here (in Finnish, sorry).

My in-laws had their 40th wedding anniversary. I made this card for them. It in the upper left corner.

Kesäloma!

No nyt se vihdoin alkoi...kesäloma! On tätä jo odotettukin. Jo kesäkuussa ostimme poikaselle uima-altaan. Muutaman kerran siinä jo on uitu ja nyt taas loman kunniaksi. Kissakin tuli pällistelemään vesileikkejä, mutta piti reippaan turvavälin inhokkiaineeseensa eli veteen.

At last it has began...my summer holiday. I've waited for this for so long. Already in June we bought a small swimming pool for our son. A few times he has swam in it and now again in the celebration of the holiday. Our cat also came to watch the water games but kept a safe distance from the water.

Katselin tässä kuukausia sitten Neljän tähden illallinen -ohjelmaa ja siinä Herra Hytönen tarjosi vierailleen jälkiruoaksi mansikoita tsaarin tapaan. Nyt ensimmäisillä kotimaisilla mansikoilla oli tuota ohjetta pakko kokeilla. Resepti on hyvin yksinkertainen: sekoita smetanaa ja fariinisokeria suhteessa 1:1 ja nosta kippo jääkaappiin maustumaan. Sekoittele uudestaan ja nosta pöytään. Mansikoita dipataan makoiseen kinuskimaiseen dippiin ja eikun suuhun. Hyvää oli, vaikka isännän mielestä eivät mansikat mitään dippejä kaipaakkaan. Tämä passaisi ehkä myös kirpeitten viinimarjojen pariksi.

A few months ago I watched a Finnish cooking show. There one of the celebrity chefs made dessert called Tsar's strawberries. Now with the first domestic strawberries of the season I had to try it. The recipe is simple; just mix smetana and brow sugar in relation 1:1. Put the bowl in to a fridge to let the taste settle. Then mix again and lift it to the table. Dip strawberries into it. I quite liked it though my husband said that strawberries are best just the way the are.

Totesin juuri kävelyllä ollessani, että juhannuksena Suomen luonto taitaa olla parhaimmillaan. Niittykukkia on ojanvierustat täynnä ja näkymä on muutenkin vielä niin kovin vehreä. Noukin joukkooni muutaman kukkasen ja laitoin vaasiin. Vaaleanpunaiset ruusut ovat omasta puutarhasta. Tai no tuolta puutarhan laitamilta, jossa ne ovat saaneet villiintyä omaan tahtiinsa.

I just took a walk and noticed that the Finnish nature is at it's best right about now in midsummer. Roadsides are filled with beautiful flowers and all and all the everything is mighty green. I picked some flowers into a vase. The pink ones are from our garden or fro the edges of it where they have grown out of control. Happy Midsummer!

Lounastunnilla nappasin Kodin Kuvalehden ruokaseuraksi ja löysin sieltä helpolta näyttävän reseptin raparperi keikauskakkuun. Se olikin helppo ja ihan kelvollinen. Päällisestä tuli yllättävän hyvää, mutta voitaikina pohjana on ehkä liian rasvaista. Josko tähän kehittelisi toisenlaisen taikinan tai sitten syödään vain päällistä. Tähtianistahan ei tietenkään kaapista löytynyt, joten korvasin sen tavallisella aniksella. Sopi yllättävän hyvin. Reseptin löydät täältä, jos haluat kokeilla.

At lunch I had a magazine called Kodin kuvalehti as my company and found this recipe for rhubarb upside-down cake from it. It seemed very simple and that it was. The cover was very good but the dow in my opinion was a bit too greasy for a cake like this. Maybe if one would use some different sort of dow or just make the topping...The anise works surprisingly well with rhubarb. That I warmly recommend. The recipe for this cake can be found here. Again it's in Finnish but if you'd like I can translate it for you.

Tämän konstin nappasin aikoja sitte kyytiini jostakin. Tällä niksillä saat putsattua hopeat nopeasti ilman ärsyttävää hinkkaamista. Tarvitset vain muovisen astian, johon hopeasi mahtuvat, foliota, merisuolaa ja kiehuvaa vettä. Vuoraa muovikulho foliolla ja laita sinne noin pari ruokalusikallista merisuolaa. Kaada kiehuvaa vettä päälle ja odottele, että merisuola liukenee. Pudota hopeasi kippoon. Katso, että kaikki hopeasi ovat pinnan alla, muuten tulee ilkeitä värieroja. Eikä aikaakaan, kun tummimmatkin hopeat puhdistuvat. Nosta hopeat kiposta, huuhtele ja kuivaa. Siinäpä se!

I'd like to share the best way I know to clean silver. This little tip I've been using for a long time. All you need is a plastic bowl big enough for the silver to fit, tinfoil, seasalt and boiling water. Place the tinfoil into the bowl and press it agains the edges. Put about two tablespoons of seasalt into the bowl and poor boiling water on top. Wait for the seasalt to melt then place your silver in to the water. Make sure that the silver is fully under water. Then just wait. Rince the salty water of the silvers and dry. So easy it is!

Nyt kun olen kerrankin päässyt pussien tekemisen makuun, päätin surauttaa pari kilon painoista riisipussia pitämään salaman jalustaani pystyssä. Siihen kun tuuli aina ulkosalla tarttuu ja saa pelätä vehkeidensä puolesta. Tein molempiin pussukoihin pienen lenkin, jos tavallinen jalustani tarvitsee joskus lisäpainoa, on ne helppo siihen laittaa roikkumaan.

Nämä pussit ovat olleet tekolistalla jo vuoden. Lopulta niiden tekemiseen kului aikaa vaivaiset 15 minuuttia. Nämä ovat näitä asioita, joita siirtää aina tuonnemmas ja tuonnemmas ja kun lopulta homman saa tehtyä, ei siihen kulu aikaa juuri lainkaan.

Sireenit (vaiko syreenit?) kukkivat! Huumaava tuoksu. Toin sisälle maljakkoon.

Now that I've gotten the hang of making bags I made these rice bags one kilo each to hold down my tripod for the flash. The wind usually tries to catch it and I'm afraid for my photo gear. I made a little loop if I ever need more weight on my regular tripod I can just hang the bags on it.

The bags have been in the making for a year now. It's just so hard to start. Eventually when I just started to sew it took me 15 minutes. Does this ever happen to you? You keep pushing and pushing the start of doing something and eventually when you make up your mind to it it takes such a little time.

Lilacs are blooming! The scent is just lovely. I brought some inside into a vase.

Tuoksupusseja

Viime kesänä ostin laventelin taimen, ja syksyllä katkoin sen oksat poikki ja kuivatin. Nyt olen intaantunut väsäämään pikku pusseja, joihin laitan ihanan tuoksuvaista laventelia. Tosin kuivattamani lehtimäärä ei riittänyt kuin neljään pussiin, vaikka laitoin lehtien kaveriksi paljon vanua. Hyvältä silti haisevat vai pitäisikö tässä sanoa että tuoksuvat?

Taustalla hornaavalla katilla on muuten tänään synttärit. Herra täyttää kunniotettavat seitsemän vuotta. Hän on lehdestä lukemani artikkelin mukaan nyt seniori kissa.

Last summer I bought a lavender and in the autumn I cut and dried the leaves. Now I've made small scented bags out of them. Though the lavender I have produced was barely enough for four small bags even I put a lot of stuffing inside as well.

Our cat that's sleeping in the background has his birthday today. He is now a respectable seven years of age. Now he's a senior cat or at least that's what I read from a magazine.

Perjantaina pientä pojuamme odotti autotallissa pressun alla yllätys. Siellä oli ihka oikea polkuauto. Isänsä oli tilannut sen Amerikasta asti pytynkansien kanssa samalla rahdilla. Vaikka jalat eivät aivan vielä yllä polkimille, on auto silti mieleinen. Sitä tutkittiin joka suunnasta, lykättiin ja vedettiin, istuttiin penkille oikein ja väärin päin ja jäätiin jumiinkin pariin otteeseen.

Last Friday our boy got a little surprise. Under a sheet in the garage there waited a brand new peddle car. His father had ordered it straight from the U.S. Though his feet don't quite reach the peddles yet, the car is to his liking. He examined every inch of it, pulled and pushed it, sat on the seat facing front and sometime the back and got stuck even on few occasions.

Pienenä sanoin kasvihuoneita kaffihuoneiksi. Mikä ettei, onhan niitä teehuoneitakin. Käväisin tässä kylällä olevassa kasvihuoneessa hakemassa kesäkukkia. Valikoimaa oli vielä runsaasti eikä väkeä ollut nimeksikään. Kuten aina ostin petunioita. Nyt ne ovat nököttävät pahvilaatikossa porraspäässä. Saas nähdä kauanko menee ennen kuin saan ne istutettua.

When I was little I used to call greenhouses coffeehouses. The two words are so close in Finnish language. Well anyway I got my summerflowers from a big greenhouse from our village. They had plenty to choose from and not too many customers so it was great to stroll around and look at the beautiful scenery. I bought myself Petunias which I always do. Now they're in a cardboard box. We'll just have to see how long it takes this time for me to plant them.

Vieläkin sitä jaksaa tuulettaa! Onhan tätä ihanuutta odotettu viimeiset 16 vuotta! Eilen illalla istuimme kotosalla kisakatsomossa pelipaidat päällä. Söimme suklaata ja välillä kynsiämme. Hetken karjuimme niin kovaa, että poikanenkin heräsi. Silmät painuivat kiinni vasta lähellä yhtä yöllä ja koko päivän ovat luomet lupsuneet. Mutta kyllä se oli sen arvoista...Suomen MM-kulta!

It's been 16 years since Finland has won gold in World championships in icehockey. But yesterday the dream came true the second time. We gave our beloved neighbor Sweden a big asswhipping by beating them in the final 1-6! We watched the game at home with our gameshirts on. We jumped and screamed during the game; once so loud that we even woke the child up. At one at night we finally got to sleep and the day has gone yawning. But it was absolutely worth it...the Finnish World Championship gold!

Bongasin nämä ihanat harjat ensin Kotivinkin sivuilta. Oikopäätä rynnin Clas Ohlsonille niitä hakemaan. Kuten arvelinkin muutkin olivat havainneet värikkäät harjat lehden sivuilla ja lähteneet niitä hamstraamaan. Hyllyssä oli harjoja kolme. Tarvitsin kaksi äitienpäiväksi, joten en joutunut tyhjin käsin lähtemään. Käytännöllisyydestä en tiedä, mutta eivätkö olekin hassun hauskan näköisiä?

I noticed these colorful dishbrushes on the pages of Kotivinkki. Straight a way I marched into the shop called Clas Ohlson and as I had predicted other people had read the magazine as well and decided to get one. There were three brushes on the shelfs left. I needed two for Mother's Day so I got what I came for. Aren't they jus cute?

Hauskaa vappua! Anteeksi myöhäiset vapun toivotukset, mutta olemme sairastelleet oikein urakalla. Nyt elämä alkaa pikku hiljaa voittaa, vaikkei vieläkään kyllä työkuntoisia olla. Happy Labour Day! I know it's a bit too late to wish that but we've been sick the last weekend and the beginning of this one. Now it is beginning to feel like there actually is life after this terrible cold though I'm in no working condition yet. Puita kumoon ja tipuja ruohoon

Hauskaa pääsiäistä! Kerkisinpäs sitä toivotella, ennen kuin se loppuu. Koko pääsiäisen aika on mennyt klapikökässä. Kaadoimme naapurin rajalta kahdeksan isoa koivua ja siinä onkin sitten ollut työmaata kerrakseen koko viikonlopuksi ja vielä seuraavaksikin. Huh, huh!

Happy Easter! I almost forgot to wish it but still I had plenty of time to do so (three hours). the hole easter has gone in "wood work" We took down eight big trees at the edge of our property and now we have to saw and devide them into smaller pieces. There has been plenty of work for this weekend and also for the next one. Whoah!

Remonttia tyrkkää

Vaikka talossamme on paljon neliöitä, ei pojullamme silti ole omaa huonetta. Olemme päättäneet tulevana kesänä laajentaa asuinneliöitämme varaston eli ylämakasiinin puolelle. Tilaan tulee pojuselle ikioma huone ja meille uusi makuuhuone. Saamme myös vihdoin kauan hinkumani työhuoneen.

Though we have a lot of square feet in our house our boy doesn't have his own room. That all is about to change when we are starting to renovate a storage into living space this summer. The boy will get his own room and we'll get a new bedroom as well. Also we'll get a study witch I've longed after.

Olen kerrankin ajoissa pääsiäisen kanssa. Ehkä liiankin. Viime vuodesta viisastuneena kylvin rairuohon kylvin jo viikko sitten ja nyt se on jo niin korkea ja vehmas, että pelkään sen nuutuvan ennen pääsiäistä. Keittiöön ostin tällaisen ihanan helmilijan. Sen juurelle laitoin söpöjä puisia tipusia, jotka aikonani olen Tiimarista ostanut.

Pitää vissiin ahmia pääsiäistä näin ennakkoon, koska vappu seuraa siinä sen kintereillä niin, että tuskin tiput pääsevät pöydälle, kun ne jo pitää vaihtaa ilmapalloihin ja serpentiiniin.

It's the first time that I'm already ready for Easter. Because what happened last year I planted the eastergrass already a week ago.Now it has grown into a big bush and I fear that it doesn't last until Easter. For the kitchen I bought this lovely blue flower. At the base of it I put these wooden chickens to cheer things up

This year it's weird that as soon as you have gotten your easter decorations up you have to get them down because the following weekend it's labour day and balloons and serpentine must go up.

Siitä on jo aikaa, kun olen viimeksi päässyt kunnon shoppailu kierrokselle. Tässä kesäaikaan siirryttäessä sain viikonloppu vapaata ja suuntasin Pendolinon nokan kohti maamme pääkaupunkia. Viikonlopun ostos- ja huvittelureissu tuli kyllä tarpeeseen. Huomasi, että oli miltei vuoden shoppailut pankossa, koska ostoskasseja alkoi kertyä käsivarrelle.

Pojuselle tietysti ostin paljon, mutta jotakin kuitenkin itselleni. Sinivalkoraidallinen Polarn o. Pyretin paita on kertakaikkisen ihana. En tiedä vain, koska raaskisin sen pojan päälle pukea. Keltainen otus on uusi pehmomme ja linnut ripustan pajun oksiin, kunhan vain saisin niitä haettua. Superstarit löysin täältä "kotoa" supertarjouksesta. Vanhat olivat jo niin rähjäiset, että ne pitikin jo päivittää.

It's been a while since I've been on a real shopping spree. I got the weekend off from home and headed to our nation's capital Helsinki. A weekend of shopping, fun and friends was just what I needed. I noticed that I hadn't done any serious shopping for a year because my hands begone to fill with shopping bags.

I bought lots for our son but also something for myself. The blue and white striped shirt for the boy is from Polarn o. Pyret and it is absolutely lovely. The yellow creature is our new soft toy and the birds will hang from our Easter branches as soon as I'll find the time to get some. Adidas Superstar sneakers were on sale here at "home". My old ones are so worn out that it was really time to buy new ones.

Siitä taitaa nyt tulla tarkalleen kaksi vuotta, kun löimme toimittaja ystäväni kanssa hynttyyt yhteen ja myimme jutun kodistamme Kotivinkkiin. Olin jo menettänyt toivoni, että sitä koskaan julkaistaisiin, mutta nyt juttu komeilee uusimmassa lehdessä. Tosin juttua sinällään ei ole vaan se on korvattu kuvatekstein, ja kuvistakin juttuun on valittu yhtä lukuun ottamatta keittiössä kuvatut kuvat. En tiedä huomaavatko lukijat, mutta pieni ristiriitahan siinä on, kun talossa sanotaan olevan yli 400 neliötä ja kuvat on otettu kaikki samoilta jalansijoilta.

Right about now it's been two years since me and a journalist friend put our heads together and sold a story and pictures of our house to a women's magazine called "Kotivinkki". I had already lost my hope that the story would ever be published but now it's printed in the newest issue. The 4000 marks long story has been edited just to short captions and the pictures selected so that it contains only pictures from the kitchen except for one. Well maybe I should be happy that it got published but I cannot help but wonder will the regular reader notice the conflict in that our house is over 400 square meters but the pictures are all taken from the same room.

Aina silloin tällöin tulee kaipuuta Keski-Eurooppaan. Juuri nyt muistin kauniit magnoliat, jotka varmasti kohta ovat nupullaan. Niiden kämmenen kokoiset terälehdet tippuvat kukinnoista ja kuorruttavat jalkakäytäviä. Tuoksu on ihanainen. Huomaisinkohan enää niitä, jos siellä asustelisin, vai olisiko arki jo turruttanut silmäni? Kuka tietää. Tahtoisin omalle pihalleni sellaisen, mutta ne eivät menesty kuin eteläisimmissä osissa Suomea. Nyyh. Täytyy siis matkustaa niitä vielä katsomaan...joskus.

Every now and then I get a longing for Central Europe. Right about now the magnolias are about to flower. They scatter their pedals, which are as large as the palm of your hand, all over the walkways. And the sent is so lovely. I wonder would I notice them if I still lived there or would the everyday life had numbed my eyes? Who knows. I would like a magnolia tree on my own yard but we live too up north for it to survive. Well I have to visit the streets covered with magnolia pedals...someday.

Poikanen on siinä iässä, että on kaiken yksinkertaisen ystävä, siksi päätin väsäistä hälle perinteisiä hernepusseja. Kangasta kaappiini on kertynyt vuosien mittaan jos jonkinlaista, ja niistä valitsinkin ihanimmat kuviolliset. Tein sabluunan piirtoheitinkalvolle bambin kuvasta ja töpsöttelin kangastilkuille siniset painokuviot. Muutamaan painoin kirjainleimasimilla myös pojusen nimen. Ja kuten arvasinkin, ovat pussit pojun mieleen.

Our son is in that age when everything simple is very interesting. Due to this I decided to make him some beanbags (?) but instead of beans I used peas. My closets are filled with fabrics so I just pick the ones with nice colours and patterns. I made a bambi stencil out of plastic film and pressed some prints on to the fabric. To few I used letter stamps to put my son's name on them. And as I had predicted the child loves his little peabags.

Ei pöllömpää

Kauan kauan sitten tein painoseulan vanhaan kirjontakehykseen valoverhosta. Vedenkestävällä liimalla saa tukittua verhossa olevat pienen reiät ja näin syntyy kotikonstein useamman painon kestävä seula. Pöllöt painoin vanhalle lakanalle ja pellavalle. Takapuolelle laitoin värikästä puuvillakangasta. Ei pöllömpää vai mitä?

A long long time ago I made a screen printing frame out of embroidery hoop, gauzy curtain and waterproof glue. With the glue you can close up the little holes in the curtain. With this frame you can make a few prints and if you wash it gently it lasts even longer. I printed the owls on and old cotton sheet and one on flax. For the back I used colorful cotton and I got the chance to use my new name tags.

Kenellä muulla on nurkat täynnä vanhoja koriste-esineitä? Niitä ei raaskisi poiskaan heittää, mutta ne eivät oikein sekalaisten väritystensä takia sovi kirjahyllyssä pidettäviksikään. Ollos huoleton, ongelma ratkaistu on. Spraymaalaa eriväriset koriste-esineet samalla värillä. Muodot ja hahmot erottuvat vielä selvästi, vaikka pintaa koristaakin pirteä pinkki. Tuunasin kissan ja aasin liimaamalla niille silmät. Kissan selkään kiinnitin vielä enkelin siivet. Ovat niin kitsch, että ovat jo kertakaikkisen hienoja.

Nimilappoja tilasin poikasen vaatteisiin ja samalla omiin ompelemuksiini Englannista. Tuli halvemmaksi kuin tilata Suomesta ja värejä ja kuviomalleja oli runsain mitoin enemmän. Toimitusaikakin oli siedettävät 4 viikkoa. Täältä niitä saa, jos haluat.

Who else has corners filled with old decorative items? You don't have the heart to throw them out but they don't quite fit with the interior. Don't you worry, problem has been solved. Spraypaint the object with the color of your choice. I painted mine pink. You can still see the shapes and figures quite clearly. I glued eyes on to the cat and the donkey and also put silver wings on the cat. They're so kitsch that they're really cool.

I ordered nametags for the baby's clothes and also some for my self from England. They were cheaper to order there than from Finland. Also they have more colors and patters available.If you want you can order yours from here.

Perheessämme asustaa jo yksi vuotias pikku poika! Kuluupa se aika äkkiä. Naapurilta poikumme sai lahjaksi ihanan Babarin autoineen. Siitä se ajatus sitten lähti kakkua varten. Tein kakkupohjat kääretorttutaikinasta ja väliin laitoin mansikkahilloa, sitruunarahkaa ja kermavaahtoa. Päällisen puoliskani (allekirjoittaneelta meni hermot) kaulitsi sokerimassasta. Kukat ja vihreät lehdet olin aikaisemmin jo muovaillut samaisesta massasta. Ajotie on fariinisokeria.

There's a one year old living in our home! Surely time goes by fast. Our son got as a birthday present this lovely Babar elephant and his yellow car. There I got the idea for the cake. I made the base as large as an oven plate and between the layers I put strawberry jam, whipped cream and citrus sour cream. The cover my husband rolled with a rolling pin from a sugar fondant because I lost my nerve trying to do it! Earlier this week I had done the flowers and the green leaves from the same fondant. The driveway is regular brown sugar.

Jo muutama kuukausi sitten intaannuin repimään vanhasta lakanasta matonkuteita. Isolla virkkuukoukulla virkaten pyöräytin kuteista pannunalusen. Sitten silmiini osui ohje tällaiseen koriin ja koukuttelin sellaisen. Aikaa siihen ei mennyt kuin pari iltaa, mutta kädet olivat kovilla, koska matonkudetta on hieman raskaampi virkata kuin tavallista lankaa. Ohjeen löysin täältä. Kannattaa kurkata sivuille muutenkin, koska siellä on kivoja ohjeita muuhunkin.

Leikkipalikat löysin eilen kirpputorilta neljällä eurolla enkä raaskinut niitä sinne jättää.

Already a few months ago I got tore some old sheets into small strips. With a big crochet hook I made this basket out of them. It only took a few nights but it was very tough on my hands because the fabric strips are harder to crochet than regular thread. Instructions for the basket I found here. The wooden play blocks I found from the fleamarket just yesterday. They cost only 4 euros so I just had to have them.

Tulppaanien aika

Nyt on taas aika tulppaanien. Ihanata, ihanata! Sain lahjaksi kolmekymmentä keltaista tulppaania. Ne koristivat keittiön pöytää toista viikkoa kunnes varistivat kaikki terälehtensä. Pitäisi hakea uusia, koska ne piristävät kummasti päivää.

Kokeilin taas kakun päälle jotakin uutta. Tein tällaisia perhosia marsipaanista. Painelin "pöperööset" tavallisella piparkakkumuotilla ja tein nurkkiin pienet reiät. Painelin kakunkoristeita pintaa ja kuivatin vajaan viikon avoinaisen kirjan välissä. Jälkikäteen ajatellen olisi ollut kivemman näköiset, jos olisin värjännyt marsipaanin vaikkapa siniseksi.

It's time for tulips here in Europe and I just love it! I got thirty tulips as a present and they decorated our diningroom table for about two weeks. I should get some new ones because nothing cheers the day up like real flowers.

Yet again I tried something new. To decorate a cake I made this little butterflies out of marzipan. I used a regular cookie cutter to cut out the shape, made some holes on the wings and pressed some sprinkles on them. I let them try for about a week between the pages of an open book. Now thinking back I should have colored the marzipan so that the butterflies would have stood out. Maybe blue...

Jo muutamassa lehdessä on tullut vastaan kakkua, jotka on kuorrutettu uudella ihan maitokaupasta saatavalla sokerimassalla. Halusin toki tuota uutuutta testata ja ostin sitä paketin. Väsäsin pikaisen kakkupohjan kääretorttutaikinasta ja tuttuun tapaan laitoin kerrosten väliin mansikoita ja vaniljakreemiä. Päälle sipaisin kerroksen kermavaahtoa ja ohueksi kaulitun sokerimassan. Se hieman repeili nurkistaan, mutta peitin ne "nerokkaasti" massasta tekemillä vihreillä lehdillä ja päälle ripottelin vielä sydämiä. Taisi kakku onnistua, koska se hävisi jääkaapista parissa päivässä.

In a few magazines I've seen this new stuff with which you decorate your cake. I think it might be called sugar icing in English. In Finland it's custom to put whipped cream on top of the cake so this is a new thing; for me at least. Well of course I wanted to try it. I made a square cake and filled it as I usually do with strawberries and vanilla creme. On top I put a small layer of whipped cream and them set the sugar icing which I had flattened very thin with a rolling pin. Because it was so thin the icing ripped from the corners. "Cleverly" I covered them up with some leaves and sprinkled some hearts on the top. I think I did okay because piece by piece the cake disappeared from the fridge with in two days.

Tänään pääsin katsomaan Ola Kolehmaisen näyttelyä Vaasan Kuntsille. Olen mielinyt sinne jo pitemmän aikaa ja nyt päätin siellä käväistä. Olan työt ovat kyllä kertakaikkisen vaikuttavia. Niillä on miehen mitta korkeutta ja miltei kaksi leveyttä. Aiheina arkkitehtuurin eri piirteitä. Ihania värejä ja muotoja. Ojoijoi! Josko joskus olisi näin isoa seinäpintaa ja tarpeeksi rahaa, niin tällaisen valokuvateoksen tahtoisin kotiinkin.

Today I finally had the chance to check out Ola Kolehmainen´s photoexhibition at Kuntsi in Vaasa. I've wanted to go for so long. His work is so impressive! They're twice the length of a man in width and one in hight. He has captured different aspects of architecture; wonderful colours and shapes. Ojoijoijoi! If I had the space and money I'd by myself one for sure.

Hyvää Uutta Vuotta! Onhan sitä onneksi vielä jäljellä, etteivät toivotukseni vielä myöhässä ole. Joku nerokas totesi maanantai aamuna töissä, että vielä 51 maanantai aamua tänä vuonna jäljellä. Se tuntui jotenkin masentavalta.

Sekä joulu että vuodenvaihde meni meillä rattoisasti kotioloissa. Lahjat tuli avattua ja hyvin syötyä. Kuusen jouduin nostamaan jo pihalle välipäivinä, kun se kuivettui pystyyn. Vuoden vaihtuessa ammuimme raketit ja valoimme tinat. Omani näyttää hieman muumipeikolta vai mitä? Liekö edessä reissu muumimaailmaan? Se jää nähtäväksi...

Happy New Year! Luckily it's not too late to wish it because they're many days left of it. A colleague of mine said on Monday morning at work that only 51 Mondays left from this year. Somehow it sounded very depressive.

Both Christmas and New Year we spent at home. We opened our presents and ate well. I had to take the Christmas tree out just after few days of Christmas because it dried up. When the year changed we shot some fireworks and saw in to our future by melting tin and dropping it the into a bucket filled with icecold water. My tin looks a lot like Moomin trolley. Maybe it predicts that this year I'll take a trip down to the Moomin valley. We'll just have to wait and see...

Kuten muutkin onhan sitä riehuttava kuin päätön kana näin päivää ennen jouluaattoa. No ei vain, tänä vuonna olen ottanut lunkisti. Joulusiivotkin teimme jo viikonloppuna. Piparkakkuja leivoin valmiista taikinasta tietenkin, ja koristelin ne nonparelleilla. Kätevintä muuten on levittää koristukset lautaselle tasaiseksi kerrokseksi ja painaa sokerikuorrutteella koristeltu pipari siihen naamalleen.

Joka vuosi teen myös näitä oranssisia hajupommeja. Neilikat painellaan vaan appelsiinin pintaan ja ne päästävät ihanaa tuoksua koko taloon. Yleensä kiputan appelsiinien ympärille silkkinauhaa, mutta nyt en löytänyt kuin tällaista kiemuranauhaa. Onneksi se on sentäs punaista.

Like every other person on the planet I have to fuzz a day before Christmas. Well, this year I've taken it really easy. We even did our Christmas cleaning already during the weekend. I baked some gingerbreads from a store bought dow of course. I decorated them with some sprinkles. The easiest way to do that is to place the sprinkles on a plate and the dip the gingerbread face down on them.

Every year I also make these scented Christmas decorations. Just push carnations (not the flower but the condiment) on to oranges and they let this wonderful scent through out the entire house. I usually use red satin ribbon for these but I could not find any so I had to use this wavy one. Luckily it was red.

Jouluvalmisteluja

Yritän aina olla hyvissä ajoin niin joulukorteissa kuin -lahjoissakin. Yleensä kaikki kuitenkin jää viime tinkaan. Nyt ehdin kuitenkin kortit postittaa jo peräti viikon ennen deadlineä. Perheenlisäyksen johdosta tahdoin tietenkin jotenkin poikasen joulukortteihin lisätä. Niinpä otin jalanpohjasta valokuvan, piirsin sille suun ja liimasin silmät. Varpaan "päähän" leikkasin punaisesta huovasta tonttulakin.

Olen muuten jo aikoja sitten luopunut kauniista joulupapereista ja paketoin lahjani perinteiseen ruskeaan käärepaperiin ja laitan punaisen rusetin päälle. Paperi on tarpeeksi paksua eikä yksikään lahjan kulma ole sitä vielä puhkaissut.

I always try to be early when it comes to Christmas presents and -cards but usually I get everything done at the last minute. This year I mailed Christmas cards already a week before the deadline. Because our family has grown I wanted somehow to show that with the card. I took a photo of the baby's foot, drew mouth and glued eyes on it. On top of the toe I glued a red cap which I had cut out of felt.

I've given up fancy beautiful Christmas papers long time ago. I wrap my presents with this plain brown paper and put a red ribbon around them to make them pretty. The brown paper is much much thicker and no present corner has yet pierced it.

Jouluntähti on ehdoton

Viime vuonna etupihaamme koristi polkupyörä, jonka ympärille olin kietonut metreittäin jouluvaloja. Valot eivät enää tänä vuonna palaneet enkä viitsinyt niistä rikkinäisiä ruveta etsimään. Välttääkseni ensi vuonna tämän dilemman ostin ikkunaamme tällaisen joulutähden. Siihen menee yksi ainokainen lamppu ja se on helppo vaihtaa. Kuvat taitavat hieman vääristää tähden kokoa, sillä halkaisijaa sillä on metrin verran. Joulutähti kuuluu yhtä varmasti joulun odotukseen kuten Tuntematon sotilas itsenäisyyspäivään.

Last year I wrapped an old bicycle with christmas lights and put it on our front lawn. This year none of the lights were burning and I didn't have the nerve to start looking for the broken ones. In order to prevent this from happening again next year I decided to buy this white christmas star. It only has one regular light bulb and it's very easy to change. The pictures might not tell the truth about it's size because the star is one meter in diameter. I think christmas star belongs to christmas as surely as the movie " The Unknown Soldier" to our independence day which was last Monday.

Mandariini, mandariini

En voinut vastustaa kiusausta, kun näin Lidlissä ison lavallisen näitä ihania mandariineja. Kerta kaikkinaan ne olivat niin kivan näköisiä pienessä laatikossaan, että niitä oli ostettava. Kotona poikanen hilasi heti itsensä laatikon äärelle oranssisia kummatuksia tutkimaan.

Yet again I could not resist the temptation to by these lovely mandarines. They looked so cute in their little wooden box that I just had to take them home from the market. Immediately after laying his eyes on them our son dragged him self across the floor to look at these weird orange things.

Moni kakku päältä kaunis

Puoliskani täytti vuosia ja päätin juhlan kunniaksi väsäistä hänelle täytekakun. En aikoihin ole tehnyt oikeaa sokerikakkua ja sen kyllä huomasi. Ensin tein liian pienen taikinan ja sitten liian suuren. Lopulta sain kypsän kakkupohjan, halkaisin sen kolmeen osaan ja täytin välit mansikalla ja vaniljakreemillä. Mutta kuten yleensä, en taaskaan rohjennyt kostuttaa kakkua tarpeeksi. Koskahan sitä oppisi? Päälle pursotin kermavaahdot ja koristelin suklaalla ja ananaskirsikoilla.

My husband had his birthday and I decided to bake a cake. I had not done this sugarcake in many years and it shows. First I made too little of the dow and then too much. At the end I got my base, I cut it in half and filled it with strawberries and vanillacreme. But as usual I didn't moist the cake enough and it ended up a little dry. When will I learn? Maybe never... On top I put whipped cream, ornaments made out of chocolate and the yellow little things are pineappllecherries.

Kuusi vuotta sitten nappasimme Ikeasta kyytiin sohvapöydän, jonka piti olla väliaikainen kaluste olohuoneessamme kunnes se oikea löytyy. Sitä oikeaa on etsitty näin kauan, kun se vihdoin ja viimein tuli vastaan. Koomisinta tässä on se, että uusi pöytä on myös Ikeasta.

Marimekon vihreät kivituikut ovat muuten löytö zürichläiseltä katukirppikseltä. Kolme hintaan 4 frangia eli noin euron kappale. Niitä voisin kutsua jo löydöksi!

Six years ago we bought a coffeetable for our living room from Ikea. It was supposed to be a temporary thing until we find the right one. Well, I've been searching for the right one ever since until I finally found it. The irony in this is that the new table is also from Ikea.

The tealight holders are made by a Finnish company called Marimekko. I found the green ones from a flea market in Zürich. The price was just right. All three for 4 Swiss francs that's about 3 euros. That's what I call a bargain!

Vuoden ensimmäiset tortut

En voinut vastustaa kiusausta kaupan pakastealtaan kohdalla ja pakkohan se oli torttutaikinaa ostaa. Väänsin siitä tortut itselleni puoliskalleni. Kyllä ne vaan olivat niin hyviä kuin muistinkin. Tomusokeri kruunaa aina nautinnon.

I could not resist the temptation when passing by the batter shelf for these Christmas delicacies. I had to make some for my self and my husband. And yes the were as good as I remembered. A little bit of icingsugar puts literally the icing on the top. Yummy!

Suolaista ja makeaa

Makeahammasta kolottaa aina, mutta nyt päätin tehdä myös jotakin suolaista pientä purtavaa. Nämä kylmät täytetyt tortilla lätyt ovat helppoja tehdä ja säilyvätkin jääkaapissa mukavasti. Ohjeen nappasin täältä. Tosin paprika ja kinkkuleikkeleet jäivät kauppaan, mutta se ei makua haitannut.

Helpon omenapiirakan tein mummun vanhan ohjeen mukaan. Tässä resepti myös sinulle, jos haluat kokeilla.

Omenapiirakka

2 munaa

2 kkp sokeria

1 kkp maitoa

2tl leivinjauhetta

50g voita tai margariinia

2 kkp vehnäjauhoja

2 kpl omenia

kanelia

Kaikki aineet sekoitetaan ja kaadetaan voidellulle pellille. (Leivinpaperia tietenkin käytin minä ja sulatin margariinin.) Omenia, kanelia ja sokeria päälle. (Kuorin ja raastoin omenat.) 225 astetta ja noin 15 minuuttia

My sweet tooth is aching almost all the time but this time I decided to make also something salty. These cold tortilla wraps are easy to make and they last long in the fridge. They're quite filling though they don't look that way.

This easy apple pie I made using an old recipe from my grandmother. If you'd like to try it here it is.

Applepie

2 eggs

2 coffeecups of sugar

1 coffecup of milk

2 tbs bakingpowder

50 g butter or margarine

2 coffeecups of flour

2 apples

cinnamon

Mix all the ingredients and pour the mix on to a baking plate. Put sliced or diced or grated , which ever way you like it, apple on top. Sprinkle also some cinnamon and sugar. Bake in 225 degrees for about 15 minutes.

Persiljaa ja pellavaa

Reseptissä luki tuoretta persiljaa. Ajattelin hallan ja muutama päivä sitten sataneen ensilumen ne jo vieneen, mutta mitäs kummaa; kasvimaalla persiljat olivat vielä voimissaan. Joukossa oli kyllä jo kellastuneita, mutta nämä valioyksilöt sieltä sain joukkooni poimittua.

Käväisin naapurikunnan puolella pellavatehtaalla ja mukaani tarttuivat nämä kivat pyyhkeet. Niissä lukee "Valtion rautatiet". Eräs ystäväni totesi kerran, että kaikista parasta sisutustavaraa ovat sellaiset kamat, jotka näyttävät kuin ne olisi jostakin varastettu. Tottahan se on.

Fresh parsley it stood on the recipe. I thought that the night frost and the first snow had already gotten to them but what do you know; the parsleys were fine and dandy in the vegetable garden. Some had yellow leaves but these green beauties I found.

I made a little trip to the linen factory close by and found these wonderful kitchen towels. It says "Valtion rautatiet" on them. Freely translated it means "Goverment Railways". A friend of mine once said that the best interior stuff looks like it has been stolen. So true!

Halloweenista sikkarallaan päätin väsäistä teemaan liittyvän kakun, suklaisen tietenkin. Sisustan tein muffinssi reseptillä ja väliin laitoin sisareni tekemään omenahilloa ja vaniljakreemiä. Päällisen ohjeen hain amerikkalaisen kotihengettären Martha Stewartin sivuilta. Se onnistui ihmeen hyvin eikä ollut kovin monimutkainenkaan kuten amerikkalaiset ohjeet yleensä pakkaavat olla. Inspired by the Halloween spirit I decided to make a cake fitting for the holiday. I made it out of chocolate of course. The batter I made using a cupcake recipe and filled it with vanillacream and with some applejam my sister had made. Recipe for the frosting I found on the homepage of the american household guru Martha Stewart. With the left over frosting I pimped some regular store bought cookies to match the theme. Halloween on ovella

Lokakuu on kuukausista tylsin. Ei ole lunta eikä puissa lehtiä. Juuripa siksi luulen, että halloween hömpötykset on keksitty. Ne piristävät väritöntä maisemaa ja latistunutta mieltä. Kurpitsasato ei meillä tänä vuonna, kuten ei muinakaan vuosina, tuottanut niin suurta kupritsaa, että siitä olisi kivasti saanut lyhdyn kaiverrettua. Eipä hätää, onhan minulla näitä keraamisia. Lepakot olen joskus aikoinaan tavallisesta kartongista leikannut. Siipiä taivuttamalla niistä tulee miltei kolmiulotteisia. Valon vielä heittäessä seinälle varjon ovat ne melkein kuin oikeita.

October is the dullest month of the year. There's no snow neither leaves on the trees. Just because of that I think Halloween has been invented. The decorations cheer up the dull landscape and flattened mind. Like all the other years the pumpkin harvest wasn't that great. But no need to worry I've got plenty of ceramic jack-o-lanterns. The bats I've cut out of regular black cardboard. By bending the wings the bats look almost three dimensional when the light hits them.

Keräsin tuossa taannoin viilipurkin kansia aimo läjän ja niistä vastineeksi Valio lähetti minulle tällaisia ihanaisia Finlaysonin pöytätabletteja. Kovin ovat kesäisiä, mutteipä tuo haittaa.

Siitäpä on päivälleen vuosi, kun aloitin tätä blogia pitämään. Sen kunniaksi päätin väsätä muutamat kookoskeksit. Tämä resepti tarttui joukkooni eräällä työkeikalla ja teen niitä aina silloin tällöin. Ne kun ovat helppoja ja ennen kaikkea hyviä.

Kaverusten kookoshoukutukset

125 g margariinia

1 dl fariinisokeria

1 dl sokeria

1 muna

3 dl kaurahiutaleita

1 dl vehnäjauhoa

1,5 dl kookoshiutaleita

0,5 tl soodaa

1tl leivinjauhetta

2 tl vaniljasokeria

koristeluun suklaata

Vaahdota pehmeä rasva ja molemmat sokerit. Lisää muna ja keskenään sekoitetut kuivat aineet. Tee taikinasta pyöreitä palloja ja litistä ne uunipellille leivinpaperin päälle jauhotetuin käsin. Paista 175 asteessa noin 10-15 minuuttia. Koristele sulatetulla suklaalla. Kätevintä suklaata on sulattaa minigrip-pussissa mikrossa. Sitten kulma vain saksilla poikki ja pursottelemaan.

I'm an eager eater of Finnish milk product called viili. It's some sort of yoghurt but not so sweet. Well any way I ate so many during the summer that by collecting the covers I got these wonderful placemats for the dinner table. They're very summery but it doesn't matter.

It's been exactly a year since I started keeping this blog. In celebration I made some coconut-oat-cookies. I bake them quite often because they're very easy to make and they taste really good. If you want the recipe in English please let me know.

Pestyt ja sulatetut lasit

Laiska se töitänsä luettelee, joten täytyyhän toki mainostaa, että tällä viikolla olen pessyt tupamme ikkunat. On kaksi kotityötä, joita inhoan ylitse muiden; silittäminen ja lasien pesu. Nyt keräsin kaikki voimani ja sain ikkunat pestyksi. Vanha kunnon sanomalehti on edelleenkin paras värkki kiilloittamiseen. Eivät pärjää mikrokuituliinat eivätkä säämiskät. Ainakaan omasta mielestäni.

Ilmoittauduin innokkaana kansalaisopiston lasinsulatus kurssille. Tässä ensimmäinen valmistunut työ. Hommassa ei mennyt kauaakaan, mutta se uunin kanssa temppuilu ottaa aikansa. Saas nähdä saanko siellä mitään muuta tehdyksi, mutta onhan sentäs edes yksi vati.

There's a saying in Finnish that a lazy person lists all the work he has done. Inspired by this I have to say that I've washed the windows in our house. This is a big deal because there are two houseworks which I really hate; ironing and washing the windows. By the way good old fashioned newspaper is the best to get out any strikes or splatter that are left after washing. No microfiber cloth can beat that in my opinion.

Eagerly I've signed myself up for a glass fusing class. On the left you see the first thing I've been able to create there. It didn't take long to get the pieces ready but working with the oven takes some time. Let's see if I can get something else done.

Askartelua ja nostalgiaa

Olen lähiaikoina ollut siekoran laiska askartelemaan. Kälyni innostamana siivosin yhden kaapinkin ja pyhitin sen täysin askartelutarvikkeille. Vaikka kaikki olisi nyt kätevästi yhdessä paikassa, ei sitä vain tule mitään väsättyä. Anopille sain kuitenkin kortin ajalliseksi. Tulostin netistä viivapiirroksen vesiväripaperille ja värittelin aukkokohdat vesiväreillä. Jos haluat itsellesi tulostella "värityskuvia", löydät niitä omaan käyttöösi täältä.

Airam on kunnolla fiilistellyt kohta historiaan jääviä hehkulamppuja ja pakannut ne näin ihaniin nostalgisiin laatikoihin.

Recently I've been very lazy crafter. My sister-in-law inspired me with her crafts material closet so I cleared one closet also for my materials. Although everything is now in order and easily accessible I still haven't found inspiration to be crafty. For my mother-in-law I made a card though. I printed a picture I found online on to a acvarel paper and coloured it with water colours. If you want to print out some "colouring pictures" for your own use you can find some here.

These old school light bulbs are soon history because EU is going to ban them. Airam had decided to pack the last remaining ones into these lovely nostalgic boxes. They're just plain lovely.

Tuliaisten viikko

Tuliaisiksi ulkomailta toivoin suklaata. Sitä en saanut vaan jotakin paljon parempaa. Aikani olen marissut huonosta hiirestä, jonka pallo aina likaantuu ja sitten skrollaus lakkaa toimimasta. Tuliaisina vieraalta maalta sain uuden hiiren! Siinäpä ei olekaan likaantuvaa palloa vaan toimii päältä hipsuttamalla. Kaiken lisäksi se on aika hienon näköinen.

Tarkkaavainen blogin lukijani Sveitsistä asti oli myös huomannut kuumavesipullon rikkoontumisen aiheuttaman ahdinkoni ja lähetti minulle uuden. Suuret kiitokset sinne Alppien kupeeseen! Nyt pulloja on kaksi, muttei se haittaa. Ompa särkymisen varaa. Omenoita ja niistä tehtyä sosetta sisareni toi tuomisinaan alkuviikosta. Herkullinen sose on jo aikoja sitte syöty kropsun kyytipoikana.

As a present from a business trip my husband took I wished he would bring me some chocolate. I didn't get any but I got something way better. I've complained about my mouse because the ball on top of it occasionally stops working. And it is very annoying to scroll with out the ball. As a present I got a new mouse! This one doesn't have a scrolling ball which can malfunction it works by just swiping your finger on it. And on top of everything else; it looks just lovely.

Also a blog reader from Switzerland had noticed my desperation over the broken hotwaterbottle and send me a new one. A big thanks! Now I have two but it doesn't matter. A have a backup incase the other one brakes. And who knows the winter might be so cold that I need two to keep me warm. My sister brought some apples and home made jam. The delicious jam didn't last long. We ate with pancakes. Yummy!

Siemenet talteen

En kovin ahkerasti yleensä ota siemeniä talteen, mutta nyt olen kerännyt tädiltäni saamani samettikukan siemeniä ja lupiinin myöskin. Jälkimmäisiä otan talteen, koska olen huomannut, että kun jotakin muualla miltei villinä rehottavaa kasvia haluaisi omalle markilleen, niin ei se vain ota tullakseen. Meidän markilla kasvaa peräti kolme lupiini puskaa. Kaikki olen siemenestä ensin taimeksi kasvattanut sisällä ja sitten varovasti hallaa varoen vienyt ulos. Sikari pötkylät ovat muuten kaikkista parhaita siemenen säilöntä paikkoja.

Usually I don't gather much seeds from the garden for next summer. But his year I've put aside few tagetes and also Lupines seeds. It's weird that if you want something to grow in your garden which almost grows wildly everywhere else, you won't get it to succeed. This is what's going on with me and the lupines. A few plants I've successfully have planted put even those I grew from a seed first inside and then gently I transferred the frail plants outside. Cigar cases are the best to keep seeds in, by the way.

Kauan aikaa sitä tekittelin, mutta nyt sain vihdoin itseäni niskasta kiinni ja väsäsin poikaselle peiton. Juuri sitä ihanaisesta lentokonekankaasta, jonka tässä taannoin ostin. Sisälle käytin kirpparilta eurolla ostamaani vanulevyä. Peitosta tuli kyllä ihan käyttökelpoinen, mutta lähempää tarkastelua se ei kestä. Päädyin tekemään reunat taittamalla taustakankaan etupuolelle ja tikkaamalla sen siihen kiinni. Jo ensimmäisellä sivulla rupesi kangas aaltoilemaan ihanasti. Rumaa jälkeähän siitä tuli, muttei poika onneksi siitä mitään ymmärrä.

It took this long for me to finally make a blanket out of the airplane fabric I had bought. As a "filling" I used cotton wool that I had bought from the flea market. The blanket is usable but it looks good only from a distance. I decided to turn the fabric I had used for the back on to the front and stitch it there. Already at the beginning I noticed that the green fabric started to wave. It turned out ugly but luckily the boy doesn't know how it is supposed to look.

Mitätöntä satoa

Ei kovin suurta satoa hyötypuutarhamme ole tänä vuonna tuottanut. Mustaherukkapensaat tuottivat noin desilitran verran marjoja ja omenapuumme yhden omenan. Sekin kasvoi puussa, jota jänikset viime talvena terrorisoivat. Kurpitsoita on muutama tulossa, mutteivät varmasti kovin isoiksi enää näillä säillä ehdi kasvaa. Yksi kurpitsa kasvoi lupaavasti, mutta pienen ruohonleikkuriin liittyvän onnettomuuden vuoksi, se lopetti kasvunsa. Mutta en tokikaan ole onneton. Nyt ei tarvitse potea huonoa omaa tuntoa siitä, jos prätkät olisivat syöneet marjat puskista tai omenat pudonneet ja mädäntyneet maahan, koska en niistä mitään olisi kuitenkaan ehtinyt tehdä.

We haven't gotten much out of our garden this summer. Berrybushes produced one deciliter of berries and from our appletrees we got one small apple. Even that grew on the tree that the rabbits had vandalized last winter. A few pumpkins are on their way but I doubt they'll get any bigger because of the weather. One pumpkin did grow very promisingly but then we had a little accident involving a lawn mower so it stopped growing. But I'm not miserable; no need to feel bad if the birds had eaten all the berries or apples would have rotten on the ground because I simply would not have had time to make anything out of them.

Mutakakkua ja uusi lakki

Tein nimipäiville mutakakkua todella helpon reseptin mukaan. Ainoaksi ongelmakohdaksi alussa muodostui kuinka kauan kakkua paistetaan. Se ei saisi olla liian vetelää eikä liian kypsääkään. Vasta kolmannella kerralla löysin sopivan lämpötilan ja paistoajan omalle uunilleni.

Poikaselle tein taas vaihteeksi uuden lakin. Tämän ohjeen löysin kirjastosta lainaamastani kirjasta. Jotakin tukea korvat kyllä tarvitsisivat, kun ne roikkuvat pään sivulla kuin ajokoiran korvat konsanaan. Itse kangas on jo toisella kierroksella; se oli aikaisemmin marimekon raitapaita.

Tässä resepti mutakakkuun, jos haluat kokeilla.

2 isoa kananmunaa

3 dl sokeria

ripaus suolaa

2-3 rkl kaakaota

2 tl vanilijasokeria

2 1/2 dl vehnäjauhoja

1/2 tl leivinjauhetta

100 g sulatettua voita tai margariina.

Vatkaa munat ja sokeri, mutta älä vaahdota. Sekoita joukkoon kuivat aineet ja sulatettu rasva. Kaada voideltuun vuokaan ja paista uunin alatasolla 175-200 asteessa 20-30 minuuttia. Tutkimusteni mukaan 175 astetta ja 25 minuuttia on juuri sopiva.

For a little party I made this extra simple mud cake. The only problem I had was to figure out the right baking time. The cake must not be too raw neither too cooked. It took me three testdrives before I found out the exact baking time for my owen.

For our little bout I made a hat, yet again. The directions for this one I found from a book I had borrowed from the library. The ears are quite flappy though. I should have put some harder fabric inside them.

Here's the receipe for the mudcake if you'd like to try it.

2 large eggs

3 dl sugar

pinch of salt

2-3 tbs of cocoa

2 teaspoons vanilla sugar

2 1/2 dl of flour

1/2 teaspoons baking flour

100g melted butter or margarin.

Wisp the eggs and sugar but don't let them become a foam. Mix in other dry ingredients and melted butter. Put the dow into a buttered baking dish and bake for 20-30 minutes in a 175-200 celsius owen. My calculations say that the perfect baking time is 25 minutes in a 175 degrees owen.

Uusia vanhoja aarteita

Lupailin jo aikoja sitten laittaa postausta uusista vanhoista aarteistani. Kaikenlaista ihanaa on taas löytänyt tiensä kattomme alle. Turkoosi astiakaappi odottelee autotallissa uutta maalipintaa, samaten vanhat tuolit. Pelliset rasiat houkuttelivat ihanalla ulkonäöllään, ja vanhat arabian kahviasetit jo kovassa käytössä.

I promised a little while back to post about my new old treasures. All sorts of wonderful things have found their way under our roof. Lovely cupboard and old green chairs wait for a new coat of paint in our garage. Tin boxes tempted me with their old rustic look and the plates made by Arabia are already in daily use.

Luomu persiljaa

Kuivasta kesästä ja laiskasta kastelusta huolimatta persiljani ovat menestyneet yli odotusten. Napsin koko viljelmäni kasvuston poikki ja kuivasin neljä uunipellillistä yrttejä tässä iltana eräänä. Pieneen kutistuvat kasvit uunissa; neljästä pellillisestä tuli yksi.

Though it's been a dry summer and I'm a lazy gardener my parsleys have grown way better than I ever expected. One day I cut my hole plantation down and dried them in the owen. The herbs dried up so much that out of four baking plates came one plate dried up parsley.
