"Vahoo!" huusi Kettu Repolainen

Lapsena mummuni ja paappani lukivat minulle ja muille lapsenlapsilleen Jänis Vemmelsäären seikkailuja. En toki silloin tiennyt, että tarinat ovat syntyneet Etelävaltioiden orjien keskuudessa, jotka amerikkalainen J.C Harris sittemmin kirjoitti muistiin. Anni Swan on ne suomalaisille lapsille kirjaksi kääntänyt jo vuonna 1911. 

Kirjasta on jälleen otettu uusi painos ja täytyi se pojuselle hankkia. Välillä tuntuu, että sadut ovat ehkä hieman raakoja, mutta enpä niitä pahalla omasta lapsuudestani muista, joten olemme jatkaneet lukemista. Oma peritty kirjani on vuodelta 1969.

As a child my grandparents read me stories about Uncle Remus which Anni Swan translated in Finnish already in 1911. These stories that J.C Harris  has written down are originally from the slaves from the southern states of America. A new edition of the book was put out this year so I just had to buy it for our boy. The stories seem a bit harsh for an adult but I don't remember them badly from my childhood so we've kept on reading. My book is from the year 1969.

Kaikki munat yhdessä korissa

 

Pääsiäinen pääsi jotenkin yllättämään, vaikka sen ajankohta on ollut tiedossa aina. Kiireellä ehdin torstaina tekemään pikasiivot ja koristelut laitoimme paikoilleen vasta eilen. Onneksi olin kuitenkin muistanut laittaa ohranjyvät itämään ja ruohot ovat sentään edustuskunnosssa. 

Keltaisen korin ostin Tigeristä Helsingin pikavisiitilläni, ja kuvaa varten kippasin siihen eilen koko huushollin kaikki munat. Kuvausten jälkeen keitin puolet ja toinen puolisko palasi pahviseen koteloonsa jääkaappiin. Maalaushommiin pitäisi vielä ehtiä.

Ruohoja laitoin itämään muun muassa vanhaan uunipataan ja kissanruokapurkkeihin. Pojunen koristeli peltipurkkien ruohot ja toi niiden viereen hoidossa tekemänsä tiput. Uunipadan kylkeen laitoin aikoja sitten Portugalista tuomani jääkaappimagneetin. 

Perinteinen munanmetsästys oli eilen. Piilotin 31 muovista munaa pirin pärin pihaamme ja pojunen etsi ne kaikki hyvällä menestyksellä. Palkinnoksi sai pienen yllätyksen. Illalla koristelimme täksi päiväksi vielä muutaman pajunoksan, vaikka kuulemma trullittaminen on tylsää eikä mitään essua laiteta päälle eikä pisamia naamaan. Katsotaan minkälaiseen kompromissiin päädymme.

Oikein ihanaa pääsiäisen aikaa!

Easter came and surprised me yet again. In a hurry I made a quick clean up on Thursday and decorations we put up yesterday. Luckily I had remembered to put the grass seeds in to soil and the easter grasses are in very good shape.

The yellow basket I bought from Tiger. I put all the eggs in the house in to it. After the photo shoot I boiled half and the second half went back in the fridge. Now they are still waiting for some paint and decorations.

The traditional egghunt was yesterday. I hid 31 plastic eggs all around our yard and the little boy had to find them. As a reward he got a little surprise. In the evening we made some branches for todays door-to-door candy tour.

Höyhenmobile ikkunalle

Muistelin luvanneeni, että laitan kaikki Asu ja elä -messukohteeseen tekemäni askartelut ja tuunausohjeet myös tänne. Tässäpä yksi unohtunut. Tällaisen pienen mobilen rakentaa kotoa löytyvistä värkeistä hetkessä. Mobilen voit kasata myös vaikka oksanpätkään, rautalankaan, palaan kupari- tai muoviputkea. Voit myös tehdä siitä useampi tasoisenkin.

TARVITSET:

metallisen henkarin, höyheniä, kovaa kirkasta muovia (miksei värillistäkin) esimerkiksi piirtoheitinkalvoa tai muovipullo, siimaa, teippiä, sakaset, naulan, vasaran ja halutessasi helmiä, paljetteja tai muita koristuksia.

TEE NÄIN:

Leikkaa saksilla muovista eri kokoisia lehtien muotoisia paloja. Leikkaa reunoihin halkioita ja tee lehden toiseen päähän reikä naulan ja vasaran avulla. Pujota siimaan tekemiäsi lehtiä, höyheniä (käytä teippiä, jos on tarvetta) ja helmiä. Tee 6-7 eri pituista nauhaa ja kiinnitä ne henkariin. Ripusta henkari roikkumaan paikkaan, jossa ilma voi sitä liikutella.

I remembered that I had promised to write the instructions for every arts and crafts project I did last autumn for the apartment at the fair. Here's one that I've forgotten. This is a sort of dream catcher. You can build this in just fifteen minutes with the stuff you can find around the house. Instead of the clothes hanger you can use a tree branch, iron wire, a piece of copper or plastic tube. You can even make it on more levels. Mine is only in one level.

YOU'LL NEED:

metallic clothes hanger, feathers, hard plastic (clear or colourful) for example from a plastic bottle, fishing line, tape, scissors, nail, hammer and if you want, pearls, beads etc. for decorations.

HOW TO:

Cut leaf shaped pieces from the plastic in different sizes. Cut slits on the edges of the pieces and make a hole on the other end for hanging with the nail and hammer. Thread the leaves, feathers (use tape if needed) and pearls on to the fishing line. Make 6-7 threads in different lengths and fasten them to the clothes hanger. Set the hanger where the air can move the feathers and leaves.

Koehyppyjä

Pojusen joulukalenterin yhdestä pussista paljastui laskuvarjohyppääjä. Kun koehypyt eivät sisätiloissa oikein onnistuneet niin lupasin, että jonakin päivänä viemme laskuvarjomiehen hyppäämään paikkakuntamme näkötornista. Eilen säiden suosiessa kipusimme koko perheen voimin laskuvarjomiestä testaamaan. Muutaman epäonnistuneen lennon jälkeen saimme miehen lentämään suhteellisen hyvin. Söimme eväät, paistoimme makkarat ja palasimme kotikonnuille.

Parachute man revealed himself from the christmas calendar. Test jumps indoors were not so successful so I promised that on day we'd go to the local observation tower to try it out. Yesterday the hole family claimed up the hill to the tower and did some test jumps. After a few unsuccessful runs the man ended up flying quite okay. We ate some sausages and cookies and then climed down the hill.

On tullut pidettyä ihan tahatonta blogitaukoa miltei kaksi kuukautta. Jotenkin vain on ollut muka muuta tekemistä, vaikka ei olekaan ollut. Kotirintamalla on samat kuviot, mutta työrintamalla puhaltavat muutoksen tuulet. Ehkä se on häirinnyt keskittymistä tai sitten ei.

Pojusemme täytti jo puolivuosikymmentä siis vain viisi vuotta. Pidimme hänelle juhlat laskiaissunnuntaina. Tarjolla oli tietenkin laskiaispullia ja kakkua, jonka mieheni sisko onnekseni leipoi. Siitä tuli mainio ja päällä koreilee päivänsankarin sen hetkinen lemppari Dusty. Tein tarjolle myös kinuskikissan ohjeella Mississippi Mud Cakea. Ohjeen siihen löydät täältä. 

Koristukseksi kaivoin kaappien perältä taas vanhat tutut roippeet hunajakennopallot ja Tigerin lippunauhat. Lippunauhoja ostin taannoiselta Helsingin pikavisiitiltäni vielä uusia niin saimme koristeltua koko käytävän vanhalta puolelta uudelle puolelle. Muistin kuin muistinkin vielä Tiimarista hamstraamani viisi numeroisen foliopallon. Heliumin puuttuessa teippasin sen kattoon. Toki se taitaa muistuttaa enemmän S-kirjainta kuin numeroa viisi.

I didn't plan to keep blog silence for this long but somehow it just happened. At the home front things are pretty much the same but new exciting things have happened in the work front. Maybe that's taken it's toll on the blog front or then again maybe not.

Our son turned five in February. On a Sunday we held a birthday party for him. We had Finnish pastries and a cake which luckily my sister-in-law made. On top of it was our son's favourite of that time Dusty. Also I made Mississippi Mud Cake for the very first time. It turned out great but the slices should have been much much smaller. As decorations I pulled out my all time favourites; honeycomb balls and colourful banners. I also remembered I had bought from the closing sale of Tiimari number five ball almost two years ago. In lack of helium I taped it on to the ceiling. I think it reminds more the letter S than number 5.

Tilanjakaja pesuhuoneeseen

Yli kymmenen vuotta sitten remontin yhteydessä piti pesuhuoneen vessanpytyn näkösuojaksi rakentaa jotain. Se mitä, jäi mietintäastelle. Aikansa virkaa hoiti Ikean omituinen pystynaulakko, joka kosteuden myötä antoi periksi. Lopulta kasasimme saunatakkeja pienen jakkaran päälle. Vessapaperirulla yritti pysytellä ikkunalaudalla huonolla menestyksellä. Jotakin oli siis tehtävä. 

Kätevä appiukkoni kasasi tilaan pikapikaa tuollaisen tikapuusäleikön. Aluksi ajattelin, että rimat voisivat olla lähempänä toisiaan, mutta sitten hoksasin, että väleihin saa kätsysti pyyhkeitä. Biltemasta ostamani ovenpäälliskoukut passasivat juuri sopivasti rimojen paksuuteen ja koukkuja pystyy siirtelemään tarpeen mukaan. Vessapaperiteline on seinämän toisella puolella. Over ten years ago when we renovated the house we wanted to put something to block the view to the toilet seat in the shower room. What would it be we could not figure out. First the job was given to a standing coat rack from Ikea. It lasted as long at it lasted but the moisture finally got to it and it broke. After that we ended up putting our towels and shower jackets to the little seat. Also the toilet paper roll tried to stay on the window ledge without success. Something obviously had to be done. 

My father-in-law is very talented carpenter. In no time at all he build us this thing that looks a bit like a ladder. First I thought that the bars could be closer together but then I noticed that you can put towels to dry in between them. The hooks are meant to be put above your door but the width is just right for this as well. They're quite handy and can be moved around. The toilet paper finally got a proper place where it doesn't fall to the floor. Both the hooks and the toilet paper holder are from Biltema.

Hyvää uutta vuotta!

Pääsin vihdoin toivottamaan myös tänne hyvää uutta vuotta! Aattona kävimme katselemassa naapurikaupungissa ilotulituksen, valoimme tinat, ammuimme pari omaa rakettia ja heittelimme sädetikkuja puihin. Nyt pojunen uskalsi jo tikun käteensäkin ottaa. Niin se rohkeus vain kasvaa.

Finally I have the time and a working computer to come and wish you Happy New Year! At New Year's eve we went to watch fireworks, melted some tin, shoot some of our own fireworks and threw sparklers in trees. Now the little boy had the courage to take one in his hand.
