Sanoitteko harmaata?

Kuten aikaisemmin jo kirjoitin, tulee uuden puolen lattiastamme harmaa.

As I wrote earlier our floor on the "new" side is going to be painted gray. Easier said than done. I went to the hardware store to get some paint samples and boy I got grays to choose from. And to make to job even more difficult after taking the picture I went and got me twice as many paint samples. But now I think I know which shade of gray the floor is going to be.

The sky was also gray yesterday. Along with some thunder came down the rain. I would have done this post already yesterday but Mr. Thunder thought we can survive without internet for one day.

Mattimatteja ja Alvar Aaltoa

Lomapäivien käydessä vähiin, lähdimme vielä retkeilemään koto Suomeen. Suuntasimme matkamme kohti Naantalia ja Turkua. Käväisimme Muumimaailmassa tervehtimässä Mörköä ja Mattimatteja kuten poikasemme Hattivatteja nimittää. Mahtuihan reissuun myös harrasteautoja, joita yllätykseksemme kerääntyi Kupittaa kentän nurkille sankoin joukoin.

As our vacation days are running low we headed out to explore our homeland Finland. We drove to Turku and Naantali. In Naantali we went to Moominvalley and said hello to the Groke and Mattimattener as our son calls Hattifattener. As our surprise in Kupittaa field in Turku there was a gathering of hobby cars which we of course had to check out.

Paluumatkalla koukkasimme Paimion parantolan kautta.

On our way home we went to a tuberculosis sanatorium designed by Alvar Aalto. It's called Paimio sanatorium. Our son clapped his hands together with joy when he heard where we were going. He had little idea that "tuberculosis sanatorium" is not an amusement park. The sanatorium still operates as a hospital so without a guide one could only see a little portion of the facility. On the outside you can walk around freely. The yellow staircase is so inspiring and also the lamps hanging from the ceiling in the dining room.

Yet again I put the best grass trimmer in the world to work. I cut our "meadow" almost to the ground because it mainly consist of such quality plants as stinging nettles and mugworts. For a small area on the side of the road I've gotten the wild plants that I've wanted; daisies, red clovers, spreading bellflower and cranesbills. Those I left alone. I lifted the plants I cut on to some poles I carved so they look a bit like hay poles. Lets see if the poles are still standing in the morning because these are the first three I've ever put up.

When the shelfs are empty and all left from cookies is just a few crumbs what to offer sudden guests? I found from the freezer a pack of batter for these Christmas delicacies, shared the dow pieces in two, put raspberry jam and vanilla creme on them. Sprinkled some icing sugar on them and voilà! Best straight from the oven. If left for next day they tend to get a bit soggy.

Homma etenee

Lankut on jo tilattu.

Again I've forgot to put an update of our renovation. This is how it's looking at the moment. Almost all the walls are up, air condition and electrics are done. Last we've done work on the ceiling. The floor is going to be basic wood and probably it'll be covered with gray paint. The wood is already been ordered. I've browsed through a few wallpaper books but have not decided on anything yet. I'll just let it fester for a while.

At a car show in Tampere in the spring I took a poster of Savo Vintage -fair. I googled the fair and noticed that the same time in Pieksämäki there was a picnic for hobby cars. So we decided to head out there with our american muscle. We drove there on a rainy Friday and spent a sunny Saturday there.

The event was a positive surprise and also a great plus was the location in the middle of the city by the lake. At the end of the day there was also a cruising but unfortunately we had to leave before that. Maybe we'll go cruising next year.

From the vintage fair I found a brooch and lovely black pearls. The colorful socks I bought from the market place where there was a huge second-handmarket at the same time. I just could not resist them!

Pikkuinen Poni

This little red bike is from my childhood. It had spent years outside leaning against the barn wall until last winter I brought it home. It spent the hole winter in storage and I looked at it every time I walked by wondering is it possible to fix. For the nostalgia I decided to try to make it a ridable bike for our son.

The frame was and still is rusty. I don't want to paint it because I'll loose the "Poni" stickers on the sides. The rusty wheels and chain cover I painted white. The hardest to find turned out to be the tires. From an internet add I found a perfect pair just for 5 euros. The safety reflectors had fallen years ago so I put up bunny reflector on the front and a lion reflector for the back.

I thought I'd save some money in fixing the bike but it turned out to cost at least as much as the cheapest little boy's bikes out there. But everything cannot be measured in money. Our little boy is pleased even though his feet don't even reach the pedals. The new blue helmet crowns the riding experience.
