Joulu – se meni jo

Jouluhan sujahti ohi melkeinpä huomaamatta. Olin töissä viimeiseen asti ja mies poikasen kanssa laittoi joulua valmiiksi. Jouluaatto oltiin kotosalla ja pukki käväisi kylässä. Lahjoja oli monta säkillistä ja pojunenkin jaksoi ihmetellä kuinka kiltti hän on ollutkaan.

Kuusessa koristuksena Ikeasta lomallani löytämiä kettuja ja pöllöjä. Sienet olin hamstrannut Stockmannilta jo vuosi sitten, mutta tyystin unohtanu niiden olemassaolon. Lasiset kävyt on Tiimarin loppuunmyynnistä. Piparkakkutalo tehtiin jo pari viikkoa sitten. Viime kerrasta viisastuneena en yrittänytkään kasata sitä sulatetulla sokerilla vaan pikeerillä. Fortuna tuli pukinpussista ja on kovin mieluinen myös äidille. Kummipojalta saatu amaryllis puhkesi kukkaan joulupäivän aamuna. Tapaninpäivän aamuna kuura oli tehnyt kukkia makuuhuoneen ikkunaan.

Jotenkin on tämä bloggailu vähän jäänyt taka-alalle, kun olen aivan täysin joutunu instagram-huuman valtaamaksi. Sinne tulee kuvatuksia useammin kuin tänne nykyään. Tilini löydät täältä.

Christmas went by almost without noticing. I had to work until the 23rd and my hubby got everything ready for the big day. Christmas eve we spent home and even got a visit from Santa. The little boy got so many presents that even he wondered that had he really been that nice. 

Foxes and owls that decorate the christmas tree I've bought from Ikea. The swamps I had bought and forgotten about a year ago from Stockmann. The glass pinecones are from Tiimari. The gingerbread house we made already a few weeks ago. This time I put it together with mixture of egg whites and powdered sugar instead of melted sugar and didn't burn my fingers. The amaryllis we got from our godson started to blossom on Christmas Day. On Boxing Day frost had painted flowers on to our bedroom window.

Matotettu

En tiedä onko otsikko edes sana, mutta menköön nyt. Anttilassa on ollut jos jonkinlaista kuponkitarjousta viime aikoina. Tällä viikolla leikkasin Matto -40% -kupongin lehdestä ja lähdin katsastamaan mattovalikoimaa. Silmääni otti valkoharmaa Latu-matto. Harmikseni sen yläreunassa meni pieni kudontavirhe eikä myymälässä ollut kuin yksi ainut kappale. Onnekseni sain soviteltua hintaa myyjän kanssa meitä molempia miellyttävään summaan. En ole bukleemattojen ylin ystävä, mutta silti mukaani tarttui vielä tämä keltainen salmiakkikuvioinen matto pojusen huoneeseen.

Last week I ended up buying two new carpets for our house. I cut out a reduction coupon from the newspaper and got even more discount on the white-gray carpet because it had a tiny tiny flaw on the other end. I'm not a big fan of boucle carpets but ended up buying this bright yellow one for the boy's room.

Itsenäisyyspäivän piparkakkuja ja joulukortteja

Taas olen myöhässä asialla, kun miltei viikkoa myöhemmin kirjoitan itsenäisyyspäivän touhuistamme, mutta koittakaa kestää. Yleensä ostan piparitaikinan valmiina. Olen yhden ainoan kerran tehnyt sitä itse. Sekin oli joskus ala-asteaikana ja laitoin taikinaan ohjeen mukaan neilikkaa, toki en jauhettua vaan kokonaisia. Saan kuulla siitä edelleen. Mietin jo silloin, miksei ohjeessa lue: jauhettua neilikkaa. Nyt reipas 20 vuotta myöhemmin innostuin ja tein taikinan itse. Se kyllä kannatti. Pipareista tuli mukavan ilmavia ja rapsakoita.

Korttipaja laitettiin myös viime viikonloppuna pystyyn. Suunnittelin mallin, jonka tekemisessä pojukin pystyi auttamaan. Toki pojusen korttisaldo oli kaksi ja minä töpsöttelin sitten kaikki loput. Monisipulinen hyasinttikin on puhjennut kukkaan. 

Again I'm a bit late with my posting about Finland's Independence day which was last Saturday.  But please bear with me. Usually I buy gingerbread dough ready-made but thistle I decided to make it myself. It turned out perfect and the gingerbreads are crispy.

Also we made some Christmas cards with the little boy. I designed a style that was easy also for the child to help me with. No such luck. He ended up doing two cards when I had to make all the rest.

The lovely hyacinth is already blooming and it's companied with a flag that the boy has made in kindergarden.

Marmorilaattaa ja joulunpunaista

Viikko sitten nappasin kirppikseltä kyytin yhden ainokaisen marmorisen laatan (kaippa tämä marmoria on). Laitoin sen keskelle ruokapöytää ja yritin sen päällä tuikkukippoja pitää. Näytti niin yksinäiseltä ja jotenkin vajaalta, että hain eilen kaksi laattaa sen seuraksi. Nyt niitä on kolme ja nyt ne näyttävätkin jo joltakin.

Hyasintin laitoin vanhaan peltipurkkiin, ja pojusen kanssa laitoimme jouluvalot ja -banderollin paikoilleen. Kirpparilta pikku pätkä halusi ehdottomasti joulupallon, jonka päällä keikuttelee kissa. Nyt se koristaa oven kripaa. Kauniin kranssin sain tuttavaltani, johon törmäsi kirpputorilla. Suuret kiitokset vielä näin jälkikäteenkin! Se on tehty jostakin erikoisemmasta kuusilajikkeesta, koska havut ovat ihanan pehmeät. Toivottavasti se säilyy hyvänä pitkään.

A week ago I bought on slate of marble from the flea market but it looked so lonely at the dinner table so I had to go and buy two more. Now it's much better accompanied by hyacinth and some candles.

With the little boy we put already some Christmas stuff up. Lights are almost on every window and the banner is on the wall. From the flea market the boy wanted to buy a Christmas ball with a cat on it. Now it's decorating his room. He lovely wreath I got from a acquaintance. I sent my thanks! It's made from soft needled spruce branches and I hope it lasts a long time. 

Värikkäät päällystetyt henkarit

Kaamea räkätauti kaatoi minut sänkyyn miltei viikoksi. Olo on vieläkin jotenkin hutera, mutta muistin juuri lupaukseni laittaa sisustamastani asunnossa olevat askarteluohjeet tänne. Tässä niistä yksi. Idea ei taaskaan ole vallan omani, koska jo mummuni kieputti henkareihin koristukseksi muovista nauhaa.

TARVITSET: puisia henkareita, matonkudetta, sakset ja nastoja

TEE NÄIN: Keipauta matonkuteen pää henkarin koukun ympäri ja vedä sitä keskikohdasta vaatepuun toiseen päähän. Ryhdy pyörittämään matonkudetta tasaisesti niin, että puuta ei jää näkyviin ja tekemäsi aloitus jää piiloon. Saavutettuasi keskikohdan kieputa harvakseltaan kudetta henkarin toiseen päähän. Kiinnitä nastalla tarvittaessa. Kieputa samalla tavalla kuin henkarin toinen pää se keskikohtaan asti. Solmi kuteitten päät rusetille.

VINKKI: Henkareita voit koristella meilkein meillä tahansa; maalaamalla, teipillä, kankaalla, videokasettinauhoilla. Metallisiin vaatepuihin voit pujotella vaikka helmiä.

A terrible cold has caught up with me and I've ended up spending almost a week in bed. I'm not feeling quite super yet but maybe soon. I remembered that I promised to post some DIY-instuctions from the flat that I decorated. Here is the how-to for an easy clothes hanger makeover. The idea for the is not totally mine because already my grandmother uses to cover her clothes hangers with plastic ribbon.

YOU'LL NEED: wooden clothes hangers, carpets rags, scissors and thumbtacks

HOW TO: Swing the carpet rag's end around the hanger's hook and drag it from the centre ti the other end. Start to twine the rag evenly back to the centre so that no wood is left visible. When you reach the middle twine the rag with long stretches to the other end (leave wood exposed). Use a thumbtack to fasten the rag. Then start to twine the rag back to the centre this time so that no wood is left to be seen. When you reach the middle cut the rag and tie the end to a bow.

HINT: You can use almost anything to decorate clothes hangers; tape, fabric, paint, VHS-cassette tapes. To metals clothes hanger you can for example string beads.

Mustanpuhuvat purnukat ja lehtijuttu

Löysin tällaiset posliiniset purnukat eurontorilta tietenkin eurolla kappale. En niitä aivan sellaisenaan hyllylleni kelpuuttanut, vaan ruiskautin niiden päälle mustaa spraymaalia. Laitoin purkkien sisään ensin sanomalehteä, jottei sisäpuolelle karkaa maalia. Purkit vaativat pari maalauskertaa. Maalin kuivuttua kieputin toisen purnukan kripoihin (kahvoihin) ja toisen kannen nupin ympäri silkkinauhaa. Silkkinauhani oli sellaista, jossa on vahvikkeena reunoilla metallilankaa. Se avulla nauhat pysyvät tykysti. 

Tämä muuten on yksi sellaisista ideoista, joka päässäni näytti paremmalta, mitä toteutettuna. No näin voi käydä ja vielä aika useinkin.

I found these white porcelain jars for one euro. They didn't quite meet my standards so I decided to tone them up a bit. Before spray painting them black I filled them with newspaper so the paint wouldn't escape to the inner surface. After two coats of paint and after they had dried I winded silk ribbon to the handles of the other jar and on to the lid of the other. My silk ribbon was that sort with the iron thread on the sides so it was easy to shape. 

This turned out to be one of those ideas which are great in your head but not so good when put into practice. Well you can't win them all...

Karrrrmaiseva halloween!

No otsikko ei aivan pidä paikkansa. Meillä ei ollut karmaiseva halloween, mutta varsin mukava kuitenkin. Tänään pidimme pienet juhlat, joita voi jo kai perinteeksi kutsua. Pojun mielestä juhlat olivat varsin onnistuneet, mutta vieraiden odottaminen oli mälsää. Niitä kun alettiin odottaa saapuvaksi jo aamukymmeneltä.

Löysin H&M:stä jo muutama viikko sitten kankaisia Trick or treat -pusseja karmaisevaan euron hintaan. Ostin niitä kolme ja tungin niiden sisälle nojatuoleilla muuten majaileva tyynyt ja solmin kantokrivoista kiinni. Aika hienot vai mitä? Pöydällä näkyvät Festivo-kynttilänjalat ovat viimeisimpiä kirppislöytöjäni.

Kutsut tehtiin tänä vuonna muumion malliset. Valkoista teippiä vain ristiin rastiin mustalle pahville ja siitä leikattiin muumion muoto.  Eväitä oli jos jonkinsorttisia. Pojusen kanssa leivoimme piparkakkuja ja koristelimme ne. Jaffakekseihin tein taas hämähäkinseittejä valkosuklaalla ja vielä tummalla suklaalla asukin verkkoon kiipeilemään. Kotiin viemisiksi sai kukin pienen kummituspussukan. Ne oli helpot tehdä. Kaksi A5-kokoista kopiopaperia päällekäin, ompelukoneella tikkasin reunat jättäen helman kuitenkin auki. Sen kautta laitoin pussukoiden täytteeksi karkkeja ja keksejä. Leikkasin ylimääräiset reunat ja alalaita kiinni ompelukoneella. Tussilla silmät ja suut.

Lasten leikkejä oli tänä vuonna taas tutut luurangolle vermeet -peli, vessapaperikeilaus, palluroiden heitto kurpitsaan ja uutena löysin netistä idean tasapainotteluun "hämähäkinseitillä" samalla keräillen kummituksia matkan varrelta. Netistä löysin myös halloweenaiheiset bingolapot ja aikuisten kesken pelasimme erän. Pääpalkintona oli tietenkin kahvipaketti.

We didn't have a scary Halloween but it was nice though. We had our traditional party for the kids and why not even  for the adults. Our little boy said that the party was really pleasant but the waiting for the guests sucked big time. No wonder, he started to wait for them at 10 am. 

Already a few weeks ago I spotted Trick or treat canvas bags on sale at H&M. I bought three of them with the staggering price of 1 euro each. I stuffed pillows inside and tied the handles together. And there you go my new sofa pillows for Halloween! The candlestick holders on the table are my latest find from the flea market. They're called Festivo and designed by Finnish Timo Sarpaneva.

This year the invitations to the party were in shape of a mummy. Just tape a black cardboard with white tape and cut out the figure. We had plenty to eat as well. With the boy we made some gingerbreads and decorated them for the occasion. The spider web and the spider for the chocolate cookies I made with white and dark chocolate. To take home everyone got little ghost bags. They were simple to make. Just put two A5 sized copy papers together and sew the outlines of the ghost. Leave the bottom open. Fill in with goodies and sew shut. Cut out the excess paper and draw eyes and mouth with a sharpie.

For the kids we had the same "old games": put glasses etc. on to the skeleton, toilet paper bowling, throwing little balls into a cardboard-box pumpkin. I found from the internet a cool balance game. Kids balance on a spiderweb (made of tape, we had string) and try to gather ghosts without falling. Also from the web I found Halloween Bingo cards. We played a round with the grownups and the winner got a coffee package of course.
